Default Question???

I'm thinking of getting a BD player soon but I have a question for everyone that can give a factfull answer.

If I buy a BD player NOW that does not have 2.0, will I be able to upgrade it later and be able to watch new BDs that are 2.0. Will I be S.O.L.? I don't want to get a PS3 (anytime I mention buying a stand alone, they say "buy a PS3") Help Please.

Thanks

Why do you not want a ps3? With a ps3 you can always update your firmware with the latest updates.

It really depends on the manufacturer, i dont think there's any way of knowing until you contact the makers themselves (even though they might be a bit hesitant to say) im in the same spot i want the Marantz but need to know if it can be upgraded.

I don't think that any of the current standalone players will be able to be upgraded to version 2.0. That is really just a gimmick though in my opinion. You have a computer to go online with, you don't need your player to do the same thing. Look for something with an ethernet port for firmware updates and one that can handle all of the advanced audio codecs. Panasonic and Sony have excellent players coming out this summer(supposedly) but if you can't wait until then, look no further than the Panasonic BD-30.
