Blu-ray Count

Hi,
I bought a 60Gb PS3 at Launch (Nov 06) and lately I see PSP mentioned now and then in FirmWare Updates. I understand that the PSP and the PS3 get along somewhat and you can buy games for the PSP though the PS3. Now,.. Assuming I never want to own a UMD title,.. Can anyone tell me about the coolness of the PSP? I'm trying to find out how much fun they are .. I'm tempted to get one. Thanks, Brian Edit = For now,.. I'm starting here... http://www.us.playstation.com/PSP/About |

Hey,
I didn't realize it was 720p. I'm most interested in the idea you can access the Hard drive of your PS3 remotely,... I need to know more about that. I can put all my CD's on my PS3 hard drive in MP3 form (most of them are already on there.) and I can load it up with videos too. If I could be on the beach in Miami this spring break and remotely access all the media on my PS3 then I think I'm sold. Another thing that would be too cool was if I could use the PSP as a second controller for the PS3. I don't know if this works that way but that would also work well to sell me on buying one. (Since a second sixaxis is like $40 and I would like to have 4 controllers at some point.) -Brian Last edited by bhampton; 02-07-2008 at 06:38 PM. |

I use my PSP to play games and watch movies while on a plane etc. Concerning PSP and PS3 inter-operability, here's what I do the most:
Remote Play: 1) I check on the progress of my Folding@home 2) From wherever I am, I can listen to music and play movies saved on an external HD attached to my PS3. It can also be from your internal HD, but i'm pretty frugal when it comes to using the internal. PSP by itself: 1) Games 2) Movies ripped into Memory Stick 3) Music 4) Photo Album 5) I haven't tried Sykpe and Online Radio, but it's there... I've had my PSP for some time and I have to admit that for a while, it was a very expensive paper weight. Now that Sony has added a bunch of functionality to it, it's cool again. |

I've had a PSP since the US launch, I traded that in and got a slim one when that came out as well.
I probably don't use it as much as I should, but it's a lot of fun. UMDs are not that popular, but they are GREAT for trips. Family Guy on an airplane kind of makes the time go by a little faster. There are a lot of features that I don't really use (location free, skype, even remote play for the PS3...cause it's too slow for me). As a music and portable media device, it's great. As for games...Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core and God of War come out next month...that alone makes it worth getting PSP in my opinion. The demo of God of War is amazing. |

P.S. as far as remote play using the PSP to access the PS3. Audio playback is great...I've had no problems
Video playback...not so much, since the PSP only has 802.11b, it kind of hinders it's high speed access. I had some skipping even using my local network at home. |

http://playstation.about.com/od/psp/a/PSPSpecs.htm Maybe UMD output via component is higher - but not on the native display. I have a silver slim that I thought I'd use all the time, and for me it just sits there most of the time. Maybe I'll use it more once remote play content is available, and definitely when blu-ray starts shipping with a PSP version of the film. |

You connect via internet. There is even an option that allows you to power on/off your PS3 via the internet. As long as your PSP can reach the internet, it can reach your PS3.

Not only does the PSP can remote access your PS3 through the internet or local network, which I usually do when I'm travelling.
You can also buy the Sony LocationFree TV. Just connect the LocationFree TV to your cable box (or any home entertainment system) and when you're away travelling you can stream/view your TV shows on your PSP via WIFI anywhere in the world! Live TV on your PSP anywhere! I use this everytime I'm traveling or waiting for my car at Honda. ![]() The LocationFree also works on a PC and Mac computers. Just imagine, when you're on a road trip and you have the Autonet Mobile service (internet for the car), with the LocationFree and the PSP, you can actually watch your local TV shows while travelling...as long as you're the passenger.
