Default Grieg: Piano Concerto, Symphonic Dances, In Autumn Blu-ray Release

Quote:
Surround Records has announced that they will release 'Grieg: Piano Concerto / Symphonic Dances / In Autumn' for Blu-ray on April 25th. The audio was recorded at 24-bit at Henry Wood Hall, Glasgow, from 13th to 15th May 2003 and will be presented using 7.1 DTS Master Audio for a prefect reproduction of the source material.

While there will be a limited visual experience, this release should be considered music-only. No audio only Blu-ray devices have been released thus far, but there is a Blu-ray Profile v3.0 that was developed and approved to provide an audio only experience. Without a doubt, if more companies release high definition audio on Blu-ray, you will likely see these audio only Blu-ray players hit the market soon. Until then, any Blu-ray player will be able to play this disc on your home theater set-up.

The title is available now for pre-order at Amazon.com

His piano concertos are great too. Looking forward to this, and I hope Sony gets the DTS-HD MA capabilities firmed up by its release date.

Wicked, it's finally happening -- BD as the next hi-res audio format.

Have they announced the sample rate for Grieg? 24 bit depth but will it be 48 or 96kHz?

Default only a re-release on a new format

This is only a re-release on a new format. The same recording has been and is still available on SACD and DVD-A from Naxos. The original 5.1 is up-mixed to 7.1 on Blu-ray. So you're paying more for the Blu-ray for the same tracks with the same resolution and a studio up-mix (some surround sound receivers can output 5.1 to 7.1 anyway).

With minimal video, there is no need to use dts-HD MA at all, because 2 hours of 7.1 24/48 LPCM only takes up 8.28 GB. I see it as a marketing ploy for unsuspecting customers.

Even so, my BD player will not play SACD or DVD-A disks. Unsuspecting or not, it's got to sound better than any of my Grieg collections on CD's LPCM 2.0. I have already pre-ordered it from Amazon. For only $24 it's worth it to me.
