Querry: Amazon does not indicate that the regular German issue of Dances with Wolves includes any English subtitles (only German is mentioned). Is that right? I thought it *does* include English, at least for the bits of Native American dialogue. Am I wrong?

Some folks, such as non-native English speakers or folks with hearing impairments, aren't able to follow English soundtracks very well, and prefer to have to subtitles on so they can pick up every mumbled phrase.

Without the subtitles, my wife has a habbit of asking me, every ten to fifteen seconds, "What did he say?"

Does it have English titles for the native american dialog?

I have the first German release and parts where Lakota is spoken does have English subs.

I also agree with hok007, my fiance's native language is Cantonese and certain words and phrases in English is unfamiliar to her so we always have subtitles on. Plus, sometimes we watch movies late into the night and do not wish to have our house blasting with LFE so subtitles are great!

I hope this is region free release but I doubt it. The disc I have now is region B locked but I only have one region free player in the house so it's limits my playability to one room. I also read a member's post here that due to licensing issues, no English subs are included. I would've considered double-dipping if this release had seamless branching for both cuts even if it were still region B without English subs. Will wait and see when the US gets a release and its specs.

well considering it is an MGM release in the US, get ready for a long wait.
I mean you do realize that MGM is bankrupt right now and being sold at auction as we speak?
btw: what is added in this "new" German release from Kinowelt?

Yes, I did read about MGM's situation and know it might be awhile before US will get a release. That's why I'm keeping the first Kinowelt release and not double dripping on the new release.

4LOM made this post about the special features.

Does anybody know what will be different with this one compared to the one that's already available in Germany other than the nicer casing??

Cheers!

I'm very close to pulling the "buy" trigger on the extended cut Kinowelt BD. So far I'm just managing to hold out for a more comprehensive release, but how long is that likely to be...?

Anyone know if there is a difference in PQ, AQ, between this one and the one that was released in Germany, without the special packaging?

Thanks!

Disc #1 of the new edition is exactly the same disc like the old release. This has been confirmed by several owners of the old and the new disc in our German forums. I don't own the old disc, but I think the Jumper trailer on disc #1 says it all.

See andreasy's posts in the thread on the previous extended version release -

https://forum.blu-ray.com/2871983-post41.html

On the extended version, the English audio doesn't even light up the .1 LFE channel indicator on his receiver. The German audio does, but doesn't seem to have any audio in it. So it should be labeled as 7.0 audio. This new anniversary edition also includes a second BD disc with the theatrical release, and that 5.1 audio does have an LFE channel in both the English & German audio, according to andreasy's testing.

But, I've enjoyed the 2008 release in standard plastic case for some time now, and have the digibook anniversary edition coming as well. For my 7.1 speaker system, there's plenty of bass coming through the center and surround speakers - this isn't John Rambo, with explosions rocking the sub woofer every 20 seconds. The DTS Master Audio is excellent for catching all the subtle sounds, like the wind sweeping across the plains, or birds chirping in the background.

I have to correct myself in regard to the German track. The LFE on the German track is not empty (so the indicator on my receiver was right). I rechecked this. The rest is as you/I stated: The LFE on the English track is empty, but I didn't miss any bass in comparison with the German track.
