Default PS3 Controller Issues

My PS3 has been acting up lately...I tried turning off my PS3 using the PS button on the controller but when i get to the screen I cant turn the system off or the controller...I got a new controller and now when i try to play a game the character on the screen starts moving by itself (Happens with the other controller as well)...also my PS3 hasnt read some discs a couple time in the past but that issue seems fine now...should i call sony and send it back or wait and see what happens?

P.S. It is a 60GB version and Ive had it since August.

I would greatly appreciate any help.

I was just about to start a thread about a controller problem that I ran across Saturday. So instead of starting a new one I'll throw my question in here.

I've had a 60 GB since the spring and haven't had any problems. My friend recently bought a 40 GB over and I transferred over my Rock Band DLC to his system.

But for some reason my controller wouldn't work for his system. Is each controller only work for the specific system it was assigned to or something? I know this is a noobish question.

I'm not 100 percent sure he had the latest firmware, but he had the PS3 for a few days so I'm going to assume he had it.

Any help would be nice.

Connect the controller to the PS3 via USB to pair up.

use a small object and press the reset button on the back of the controller next to the middle screw hole. you should have to resync the controller afterwards then it should work right. i had a controller lock up the controls on my ps3 last year when i was switching a controller going dead to a fully charged one and that's when it locked up the controls. i thought the controller was screwed so i let it sit, then decided to try to fix it before i sent it in, then i found the reset button on the back, hit that and it started working properly and have not had any problems since.

give it a try to see if it helps you out.

thanks
anthony

You need to register your controller with the other PS3 before using it. It's a Bluetooth thing. Plug the controller in via the USB cable and then turn it on, and it should register.

Thanks for the heads up. I would have problems with the contorller getting stuck as well. I would play a game and it would stick making the character move on it's own.

yeah i tried to do the reset but mines totally junked out now. i have 2 controllers. I've been playin Cod4 and now 1 of my controllers is so glitched and messed up, just turning on the ps3 with it causes the system to malfunction. i turned it on and went into a split screen match up the D pad and the L1 and L2 buttons are completely non-functional and when i try to turn off the controller or the system with using it, the whole screen freezes up and i have to shutdown from the system. AND now my back up controller is starting to act wierd and moving around on its own & my new plasma tv has the HUD burned into it ...so far my experience with the ps3 has been 1 thing....VERY VERY ABSURDLY COSTLY...but i still love my ps3 but my real question is: Is there somewhere i can go to get my controller repaired for less than it would cost to just buy a new controller? and any tips on getting that damn HUD out of my tv would be nice. (ive tried white screening it but it didn't help. and before u say keep trying it..i did...i went 2 weeks without tv and white screened it 14 times... >.> my electronics hate me and my bank account

I don't know where you can get your controller repaired for cheap. If your TV is a plasma, that is one of the major drawbacks for plasma TVs. That image may be permanently burned in. I hope you have a warranty that's still in effect.

my controllers left analog stick was "loose". characters would drift forward. very annoying with online multiplayer games. anyway, i noticed i could make it stop by pulling back on the stick. sometimes. so i got a new controller. no problems since and i noticed a huge difference in the analog stick and how the internal mechanism felt while playing. i had my 60 gig for just over a year now.
