30 Days of Night TrueHD problem - Blu-ray Forum

Folks,
My first post here, and I need some help. I have a Samsung BDP-1400, firmware fully updated. I also have an older (1997) Yamaha DD/DTS receiver with the 5.1 analog "external decoder" inputs, so I ran wonderously expensive cables from the analog outputs of the BDP-1400 to the Yamaha receiver.

When I run 30 Days of Night via the External Decoder inputs, thereby allowing the Samsung to decode the Dolby TrueHD lossless audio track, I lose dialogue at the scene at the garbage plant (where they find the headsets from the helicopter). Anyone have thoughts on why this happens? I have full lossless right up to that point. Happens each and every time I reboot. It is misery having to switch to the DD track after hearing the movie in lossless audio. I agree with the reviewer that the ambient sound is sensational, maybe the best I have ever heard.

Tonight I will try the 1.6 firmware update. I will also monkey with the bitstream versus PCM option on the player. Any other suggestions will be most welcome.

I enjoy the posts and banter very much. Very helpful site to HD newbies.

that is too bad you bought wonderously expensive cables...less expensive cables do just as good as job as the ones you bought...were they monster cables???

Not all less expensive analog cables work well. HDMI is different than analog.

Colin Powell's Rule #8: Check small things.

I checked the analog cables leading from the Sammy to the Yamaha and found the center channel cable had unseated itself, was probably never seated properly in the Yamaha to begin with. The AR cables I bought online have fantastic connectors, but they tend to get very tight when plugged into a confined area on the back of a receiver.
