Default Onkyo 705 $549.99

I keep seeing the Onkyo 705 receiver on Amazon for $549.99. They put it up for that price once or twice a day, with around 5 available each time.

IF you like 120hz motion enhancer, don't buy the 705.(might be the same problem with the others also)

Reason: Once a player is connected to the reciever, the motion enhancer dont work!

I believe on amazon, the number available is the number of sources and not an indication of quantity in stock.

I'm confused by the 120Mhz refresh information provided above. Doesn't that conversion happen in the display and not the transport or A/V pre-amp?

That's what I thought too, but thats not the case. When I was over at a friend's with the same set up. xbr4 and the onky705, I asked him to turn motion enhancer on high, he was like "it's already on high". So we tested a bunch of blurays and none seem to pop out too much so we took out the hdmi cable and plugged it straight from ps3 to TV and it popped. Went back and fourth a few times and now I'm convinced motion enhancer does not work with that reciever.

I was thinking the same thing, its the tv that dose the work not the video output device, so there should be no real reason why the 120hz isnt working It just dont work for some reason.

120hz has nothing to do with the blu-ray player or the receiver it's connected to. It's a feature of the tv and a particular receiver (or any for that matter) cannot affect it.

No, the onkyo is passthrough only. It does not alter the or change the signal.

Right, and I think you can only use it on certain signals. Anything 1080i or lower I believe. But I don't know for sure, I never use it on my TV.

so my question is..... this seems to be the only receiver anywhere near this price class that has the hdmi1.3 and handles the truehd, master audio, etc.... and other receivers with these features are upwards of $1,000, so whats the catch, what am i forfeiting or giving up by going with this one?
this stuff gets confusing but with this receiver all i need is the hdmi, correct, no optical cord? and are their other hidef audio forms this doesn't handle or does true hd master audio cover it as far as blu is concerned.

Default Yep HDMI the only cable can hold the high stuff

yes the HDMI is the only cable that can carried Dolby TruHD and DTS-MA/HR and also the 7.1 PCM. but we are talking about 705 here which is the THX Certified type that has more more options like THX Natural 7.1 Surround Mode which is my favorite and it can fake the 5.1 movies to 7.1 to make it sound like Dolby 7.1 or DTS 7.1 even PCM 5.1 can be convert to 7.1 by using this THX mode

every time i commit to this i get scared out of it so i just want clarify some of my thoughts. so hidef audio formats supported....check. i dont care about video upconversion so .... check. no optics cord required.....check
whats the difference like on amazon where they have a onkyo 705 and then a thx certified2 onkyo 705 if any?
so this receiver is gonna work for me if i havn't had stereo sound in FOREVER .... i wanna see what this hidef audio can do ..... and i wanna keep some what in a lower budget frame?

The 605 and 705 are both fantastic receivers. I honestly think you should spend the extra money and get the 705 for added pre-outs support JUST IN CASE in the future you feel the need to buy a separate amp. It's a good plan for future proofing your system.

Don't worry you're not trading anything off really, many many people on these forums buy Onkyo products and you'll hear nothing but good things about them.
