Yes, according to an article on NBC, VHS is making a comeback!
![]() I think I might just sell on my BDs and go back to VHS.. Yeh, I don't think so... Quote:
I can understand the return to vinyl, somewhat, but going back to VHS just doesn't make sense... I grew up in the age of VHS and I'm not going back.. |

If I still had a working VCR I would probably get some of my favorite movies on VHS just for fun nostalgic trips. I've hung onto some tapes for movies still not available on any other modern format, as well as tapes of various thing I recorded myself over the years. Others I've kept as collector's items, like the original Indiana Jones releases, the 1995 THX Editions of Star Wars and recently a Ghostbusters tape we found while cleaning out my grandparents' house.

I read this yesterday too. I love it! Even if I don't watch my VHS any longer, just having them on the shelf, sitting there as a remnant of my past movie-viewing self, gives me pleasure. I've been watching and collecting movies for a long time, and this is proof (that only I asked to see). Just like I started keeping my snap-case DVDs the last year or two, for nostalgia. Sadly, I live for nostalgia, but it's what I got. I just accept it now.

"'You jam the tape in the machine, you hear all that mechanical clicking, you watch these dated previews, you see the fuzzy FBI warning, the picture keeps glitching out. I really dig all that.'" Yeah, I get it, although it will never replace bluray for the watching experience. |

You can still do that today. I’ve recorded some stuff on VHS within the past year. Unless your TV and/or cable box mysteriously doesn’t have coaxial connections, it’s rather simple to do.

I think it's a bit too much to say that VHS is back. People are buy previously viewed titles that they can find. VHS will really be back if companies start producing new ones. I don't see that happening but I could be wrong. It wouldn't be something that I'd be interested in though.

VHS is one format I don't want to see resurrected. The only VHS tapes I still own are old camcorder movies and I wish I had the time or motivation to convert them to disc. I don't even want it as a novelty. Vinyl records I can live with but not VHS lol

My main attraction to tapes and older formats is to view and compare differences from how the films are presented today vs then. Star Wars is the obvious, but Terminator is another interesting example with its mono soundtrack, etc. That and an old tube tv sits across from my bed on a desk, every once in a while I like to put something on while I sleep. (The big tv and home theater is in the living area.)

I can't imagine VHS making a comeback. I bet it would look like absolute garbage on my 4K TV. And my TV isn't all that big.
For those of you who have really big TVs, good luck watching VHS tapes. |
