Default Onkyo 605 - no TrueHD sound HELP!

I bought the 605 today. Hooked it up with the PS3 via HDMI 1.3 cable. It is set to Linear PCM on the PS3. It reads multich input when I have the movie on TrueHD 5.1. What am I missing?

The PS3 decodes Dolby TrueHD internally and passes a PCM stream to the receiver. The PS3 cannot bitstream TrueHD to the receiver. You're still getting the lossless audio, but the PS3 is doing the decoding.

Thanks if I choose uncompressed 5.1 or TrueHd it is all coming out the same way right? Just choose linear PCM on the ps3.

sorry for squeezing in my head in here but...
I also have 605 and according to my research I have everything setup right.. HDMI from PS3 to my Rec and TV, all PS3 settings seem to be right also. While watching any Blu disk I only have an option of NEO:6 or DPllx to choose from and DTS is only displaying on the receive itself, is that normal and I am enjoying the lossless soundtrack or do I have to tweak more to get my receiver to display DTS HD or TrueHD icons... The sound is very good and I'm enjoying what I'm hearing I'm just not sure if this lossless or not.

Nope, set your PS3 audio out to Linear PCM and your receiver should read Multich, then you will be getting the lossless and Dolby TruHD.

You are not getting Lossless sound from the Neo 6 or DPllx. It is recreating sound for you. Go into your setup menu, and choose the multich setting, see what it is set on. Adjust it to where it says Multich PCM. Do the same for your True HD and DTS MA settings. You will not see the icons since the PS3 does the processing. The PS3 does not do DTS Hd yet so it is converted to uncompressed PCM. Tell me what you think!!!

I thought those listening mode's only change they way the movies sounds?..i didn't know it changes the whole track. for example if im waching a trueHD movie and i change the listening mode to dp2x, thats means im not hearing trueHD anymore?. i always thought those modes just change the way you here the movie.

Hit the "Display" button on the PS3 BD remote.

This will show you what audio is being output...so you'll know what you're hearing.
Multichannel is what your Onkyo should display, nothing is wrong with it.

Thanks guys, I played with my receiver last night.. I actually took my time doing the setup this time. The receiver now says multichannel PCM and OH MY GOD what a difference, I can't believe what I've been missing when I watched all those Blu's, I gotta watch them again ... Also, for some reason my PS3 reset all its audio settings back to 2.1 channel, so I wasn't even getting 5.1 from PS3 *shrugs* weird.. All is good now. Thanks for all the help

I have the BD 30 and the Onkyo 705. Set the BD 30 audio for Dolby and DTS settings to "bitstream" and make sure you have your Onkyo in the Hardware setups for HDMI audio out to be set "off". If you leave it "on" the Receiver will not show it is decoding DD True HD and DTS -HD Master. Let me know if this works for you.

you are correct my friend.

The Onkyo will decode from the BD30.

unfortunately, the problem with the s300 is that it cannot bitstream or decode Dolby TrueHD or Dts-HD Master.

However, you can still get Uncompressed PCM (Lossless)...with an HDMI receiver, or connected via multichannel analog to an older existing receiver.

Can the 605 do the decoding.

yes, the Onkyo 605 can decode Dolby TrueHD and Dts-HD MA...

problem is the S300 cannot send any of it 'to be decoded'. (only standard dolby and dts)

while the Onkyo is a solution to acheiving Lossless audio, its not the solution you seek...what you seek is a new bluray player (to go with the Onkyo).

So even if I have a receiver that decodes TrueHD and Dts-HD Master Audio, it would be useless unless I had a BD player that could bitstream these audios?
