Default Blu-ray Hookup

This site is awesome!! This is a newbie problem, so please bear with me. I have had the RCA 52" HD moniter for about 4 years now. I've had great luck with it, and always loved the picture, so an HD player seemed logical. I'm happy to say that we got the Blu-ray last week. However, I'm not getting the best with my current hook-up, and woner if HDMI is my answer? The RCA has a DVI hookup, and I understand that a cable with both exists, which is where my confusion begins. In my manual, the DVI portal seems to have maybe 30 pins, but some I'm seeing on e-Bay....have far less. Whether the RCA needs a male or female cable is another question? As it is now, I feel just a step away to a doable setup. Oh yeah, The RCA model # is D52W20. Thanks so much, take care!

Smile Thanks So Much!!!

I meant it when I said that this was an awesome place. I think I'm gonna order the cable online somewhere, it's way too high locally. Didn't I hear that this setup also improves SDVDs? One more thing, the RCA mentions 1080i in the manual, will the player decide what's best? Thanks again!

Cables can be had very reasonably at http://monoprice.com/home/index.asp.

As for your output, my guess is that player probably allows you to either select it manually or will choose the most appropriate mode automatically based upon your TV.

With the HDMI-DVI cable, your Bluray player will now upscale DVD's.

(although I find it mostly a gimmick, its still offered.)

as for 1080i, You tell the BD player to output @ 1080i. What bluray player do you have by the way?

Default I Followed My Heart..

and went with the Sony S300. I've heard about all the yak about the slow stuff, but so far I'm happy. I'm finding that the remote is quite easy, just don't confuse the on/off button with the open/close! Lol! I'm kinda naive about any fancy stuff, but so far, so good! I'll get the new cable, and hope to report great results. BTW, I have a Sony receiver, and have no probs there, rocks!!! Ace Frehley's blastin out now!

do you use optical or HDMI for audio? If optical, give this thread a look.

Default One More HDMI-DVI Question....

The cable link you posted is indeed what I need, but the DVI pin set up is different looking. Mine has 3 rows of pins, does the cable work regardless? Thanks! And BTW, my Sony receiver is HT-DDW670. As it is, the sound is fine, but if I can improve it, go for it

Default No Picture. Sorry..

Looking at my manual, it appears to be 3 rows of approx. 13 pins per row. Maybe I'm over complicating this?

Default Duh!!

Just decided to be adventurous, and creep behind the TV itself. Turns out, it looks just like the pic posted above, and very different looking than pictured in the manual. Now that that's been done, will the type of cable you showed earlier be the one I need? Sorry to be a pain....
