Default SAMSUNG LNT4061 problems

has anyone else had any problems with their Samsung? I'm not having much luck with mine right now. First one was dead pixel, BB swapped out no problem, second one takes over half a minute to start up and when it does finally start up the picture is really grainy. I'm using a Monster 1000 HDMI cable and I have a PS3 as my blu player, I don't see how either of those could cause soo much grain in the picture. Even when my mom watched it, the first thing she said was that there is a ton of grain in the picture yet my first one didn't have any. So has anyone else had the same problems? When I go back to BB to swap it out again what should I look for in the next one at the store before I even go home?

I bought the LN-T4061F last month from C-City. I am also using the PS3 as my Blu-ray Player and it is connected via a $2 HDMI cable. It concerns me that yours takes so long to turn on. When I was programming my Logitech remote, I timed my start-up at 8 seconds. The picture has been wonderful for me so far (for the money, anyway, I know there are far better TVs out there, but this one seemed like a good deal at $1199). No grain or digital noise problems on my set, not with Comcast, DVDs or BDs. Well, maybe 300....haha! (J/K, I don't own 300 on blu yet).

my first set started up within 8 seconds but this one it flashes red and you hear it trying to turn on then it goes dead for several seconds and then it starts flashing read again....after waiting for several more seconds it does that Samsung start up noise and then it turns on. I'm probably going to record the start up using my brothers camera so that when I go back to BB they won't have to plug it in and question me like before. Hopefully third time will be a charm. Also I'm taking my Monster cable back, I thought that was going to fix the grain but only made it worse, $2 HDMI cable sounds good

That's actually why I first joined here, to find calibration settings. Let me search for my post and I will link it here.

Here it is:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ng+calibration

I think I have my settings like this, it is a slight variation of what BluBeard recommended, I think. I had to turn the backlight up but the rest is pretty close to what he recommended.

Picture Mode: Movie (for BDs and DVDs)
Contrast: 85
Brightness: 42
Sharpness: 0
Color: 50
Tint: G50-R50
Backlight: 06
Color Tone: Cool1
Size: Just Scan
Digital NR: off

DETAILED SETTINGS
Black Adjust: off
Dynamic Contrast: off
Gamma: 0
Color Space: Wide
White balance: haven't adjusted
My Color Controll: haven't adjusted
Edge Enhancement: off
xvYCC: off

Default calibration

hey, i have the same set...I have never once had problems with the tv taking long to turn on. I do have a question for dcstreet: what are your calibration settings for BD? Would you mind posting them? I calibrated mine using a professional calibration disk, and I have never been happy with the results. Wound you mind posting or pm'ing me your settings? Anyone else who is really happy with the results can feel free to do so as well for this TV.
Thanks!

My first set I had every setting on the tv changed and it came out pretty dull so now I'm going to try and calibrate it based on what SDon1969 posted when I get my third tv tonight. My second one I didnt' even bother calibrating because it was soooo grainy. I'll let you know how it turns out once I am done though and if I make any tweeks using my monster calibration dvd

My friend just picked this lcd up and I helped calibrate it off the following settings:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...postcount=1499

The settings in the link are considered basically perfect depending on your particular model's firmware. Consider them as close as you're going to get to an I.S.F. calibration without paying for one.

thanks for all the help...one last quick question: those settings keep referencing specific firmware versions. I went on the samsung website and looked up product updates for this model tv, and it's not showing any firmware updates on there. How do you check and see which firmware version your tv currently has installed?
Thanks again!

i didn't get a chance to swap out TVs last night, will try again tonight if I get the time. From that AVS forum, I think that is the settings I had the tv at before and the reds came out really dull, might have been a bad tv though and I will find out on the third.

Getting the firmware for your specific model isn't that hard. It's some combination of button presses from the remote I believe. Check the link in the post above for more information.

thx again for the info...i was able to find my firmware (1029). Strange how there's so much difference in calibration between firmware versions...anyway, i calibrated using the settings on there...my PS3 looks great with blu-rays using them, but my directv hd dvr looks like crap using those settings...but at least i finally have good settings for blu-rays. thanks!

DC: just curious how your third TV turned out, and what your calibration settings were. i am using the avs recommended settings, and even my wife noticed that the picture looks a little...washed out. i've tried to adjust the settings here and there, but still no luck. any thoughts or help? never saw a post from you after you said you were going to try out your third set. thanks!

I finally got my third tv after having to argue with BB for 2 hours that the tv was defective and I tried the settings reccomended here and the picture is too dark and the reds are way too low, guess I will have to do some more research and see if I can come up with anything better. I'm still getting grain on this one which leads me to beleive I have a defective PS3 (joy). Guess we will have to continue on with the chalkboard on finding the proper calibration settings for the Samsung tv
