Default Why so few 7.1 channel soundtracks on Blu-ray?

All the recent Blu-Ray movies I've bought are 5.1 channel sound. Kinda bummed because I just upgraded from 5.1 to 7.1 and I can't take advantage of it.

Many, many movies are only produced with a 5.1 soundtrack.

Rambo will have 7.1 lol

They are a real treat when you come across one. Many Lionsgate movies have it.

Almost no films are mixed in 7.1 and thouse that lionsgate do is remix that cost money and 7.1 dont nessesary aways add anything to a film. Luckely there are more 7.1 mixed heading to BD in the future mostly from Newline Belive 20+ is in the work) and Lionsgate.

Meanwhile you can use Dolby pro logic||x or THX cinema to extract the 2 side\back speakers from a 5.1 tract to the 2 rear speaker in your 7.1 system if you feel the need to use all your speakers.

I think most people would avoid any "mixing" and just play 5.1 as 5.1 even if they have 7.1

It fakes 7.1 but spreading the 2 back speakers over 4.

I prefer just using 5.1 when a movie is 5.1 and then using 7.1 for true 7.1 flicks.

Think of it like "audio upconversion". It's never as good as the real thing.
