Just take a look at the usual forums - more notably AVS - and you'll find the usual suspects at it once again (Drunken Tivo Dealer and Lee Stewart coming immediately to mind). They are now hyping this new so-called Super Upscaling that Toshiba mentioned in the WSJ article and how it might take off.
Some on there are now saying many Blu-rays don't even look better than SD DVD anyway. These guys never go too low I guess. |

I was reading an article over at hollywoodinhidef.com that linked to a CNET article about why Toshiba will release a Blu-ray player this year.
Guess what? The very first reply to the article was by none other than DeadMeatGA (whom I'm sure many of you recognize) and he was praising the wonders of SUC (super upconversion). CNET article here It's funny how these deluded people can jump on anything with such zeal just because they (supposedly) hate Blu-ray! Who are they, really?
I really don't understand it --- really. It is completely irrational. ![]() |

The TiVo guy describes HIMSELF as the biggest independent Toshiba dealer in the USA. He's just selling his wares. And he's doing so under a AVS approved "insider" and "expert" guise.
Say, Bill Gates, which is better: Windows Vista or Mac OSX? Wow, well you're an expert so I guess it MUST be Vista. Gary Last edited by dialog_gvf; 03-05-2008 at 11:19 PM. |

![]() So they go from half of the full HD experience with HD DVD (most titles missing lossless codec) to basically a quarter of the full HD experience (upconverted video and still no lossless audio). Wow - these guys are truly visionaries of the future! ![]() |

If AVS had any credibility left that kind of garbage would be moved from any HD areas and stuck in the SD DVD section. Wonder how long some sane HD-DVD owners finally come to their senses and see these fools for what they are. Paid shills.

Honestly why any red fanboys would continue to support Toshiba after they backstabbed and insulted them ("Oh, HD doesn't matter anyway"-- then why market it and sell and cause a format war?!) is completely beyond me. I've stopped buying products from companies for less than that.

I have NEVER seen a company lose a format war who so successfully slap themselves in the face in the name of "pay back".

They can say whatever they want about SUC and praise it from the mountaintops. You know that everytime they put a standard dvd in their SUC player when the know there is an HDM alternative, it will just eat them up.
They can deny it all they want, but we'll know. |

tron3: agree, it is like that person with a brain deficiency that keeps on bumping into that same wall over and over and over again (except that in this case the person is running and there is a small ledge just at the right level to get it in the balls). The worst part about it is that they are killing any credibility and alienating the whole AV world, be it studios or other CEs. It almost looks like they are already trying to kill any chance for them to be on the winning side of the next format war in 10+ years.

Also don't forget, it is always a good opportunity to ask how his special XA2 liquidation is going.
