Angry Getting Pretty TIRED of FOX's terrible distribution of catalog releases!

Why is it that when Disney, Sony or Warner release catalog titles on Blu-ray, you can immediately find them in store shelves on the first day they are released, and in good quantities too.

But when FOX releases catalog titles (examples below) we ALWAYS have a hard time finding them at stores, either not in stock, was never shipped to the store by Tuesday, or NOT EVEN in their Inventory.

  • Independence Day (Only 3 Bestbuys in the Denver had 1-2 copies in stock)
  • I, Robot (Same as above)
  • Me, Myself, and Irene (Not Sold in Bestbuy/CC stores - only available online)
  • Ice Age I (Same as Me, Myself, and Irene)
  • The Fly (Never made it to stores - Remember when it came out, no one was able to find it in stores)
  • The Day After Tomorrow (Again, Limited availability in Limited Stores)

I am just getting tired of FOX's terrible and POORLY organized distribution of their catalog titles. What's the point of making these badass catalog releases on Blu-ray with Excellent Audio/Video transfers, extra special and interactive features, top notch releases all together, WHEN YOU CANNOT EVEN BUY THE FUKKING MOVIE from retail B&M stores for WEEKS and MONTHS after it's released!!!!

They make excellent BD's and they REALLY pack them with goodies, but WHO CARES about any of this WHEN YOU CANNOT FIND THE MOVIE ANYWHERE??? Not to mention the $40 MSRP ($30-$35 retail) on some of these catalog titles are. I am willing to throw down the cash if I can find the damn thing in stock.

No one can blame this on BestBuy or Circuit City or Walmart, because most Fox catalog titles are almost never available in stores when they are first released, but somehow Sony, Warner, and Disney always manage to SHIP PLENTY of Copies of their new BD Catalog releases, this Problem has been consistently FOX's since 2006, they DON't Push the releases of their BD catalog titles and they dont ship out as much as they should, even though they SPEND A LOT OF TIME AND MONEY Perfecting these releases but then fall short of Promoting and properly distributing them in time to be AVAILABLE ON THE TUESDAY THEY ARE SUPPOSED TOP BE RELEASED!!!

I am frustrated, and dont even get me started with the fact that they DONT EVEN PROMOTE THEIR DAY AND DATE NEW RELEASES on Blu-ray, Most of the time I only see them advertise the DVD releases of New Movies, without a single mention of Blu-ray (they may at best show a Blu-ray logo at the end of the Ad)...As if Blu-ray is like an ugly ass girlfriend that they dont wanna be seen with in public.

Enough ranting...sorry I had to vent, because I went to 2 Walmart stores, and 3 Bestbuys and NONE OF THEM EVEN RECEIVED A SHIPMENT of Independence Day or I Robot on bluray yesterday! They HAD NONE ZILCH in stock!!!

I understand, that's Amazon, but Walmart has both on sale for $27, which is what Amazon is charging, so why would I order it from Amazon and wait for it to ship when I can get it the same day without having to preorder it.

Plus in my case, I got quite a few $5 BestBuy Blu-ray coupons, which I can use to buy them for $25 after the $5 off coupon. Plus I was already at Bestbuy getting No Country for Old Men, Hitman, Dan in Real Life, and Gattaca.

Oh look...GATTACA, Catalog release available in stores on BD the first day, Bestbuy had 5 of them in stock, Thanks Sony! Not a hard concept is it...you make movies, you ship movies, you sell movies!

You can't really blame Fox for this. Blame the stores who arn't ordering the releases.

Explain to me how did Fox get their shit together? I understand they made the BEST BD releases, about almost as good as Disney, and much better than Sony and Warner combined. But my beef with them is with their poor distribution/shipping of their NEW BD releaases of catalog titles to B&M stores....I listed several exampled above in my OP. It has come to the point where I am always expecting NOT TO FIND the new Fox Catalog releases in stock and just learned to pre-order them from Amazon, but this month I have plenty of the "March $5 Off any Bluray" coupons via BestBuy, so I would paying a little less than Amazon for some of these titles by using the coupon, but I can't because I can never find their movies in stock.

There are plenty of resources to find new and catalog Blu-ray releases.

It's not like you are trying to find Paramount's Shooter.

Again, do you think it's a coincedence that NONE OF THE B&M stores like BB, CC, Target, or Walmart has new BD releases of FOX Catalog titles them in stock and readily available on the first day???

However, most B&M stores like BB, CC, Target, or Walmart always seem to have new BD releases of Catalog titles by Disney/Warner/Sony in stock on the first day they are released.

It seems the only thing consistant here is that Fox's catalog releases are never available at B&M stores, or maybe available in limites stores/limited quantilties at best.

This trend with Fox has been going on for MONTHS!!! I have close to 180 Bluray movies, TRUST ME when I say I have run into this issue almost everytime!

You may have better luck finding Shooter-BD in stores than some of Fox's catalog releases when they are first released on BD. Like I said, this has been an ongoing trend, and I am not going to buy every single BD title from the Internet (Amazon, DeepDiscounts...etc). I do frequent B&M stores quite often and given the right circumstances (store coupons) I do tend to buy new releases from the store on the day of release.

Hey, I'm sure that it's in Fox's best interest to actually SELL their product.

It's not bad that you brought this to their attention. Fox Insider, should s/he ever materialize, ought to clarify the matter.

But isnt the whole complaint that Walamrt and the stores you are shopping at dont get them in on release day?

So its the same price from Amazon, and you get it on release day, for the same price... and you dont waste gas driving to Best Buy, Walmart, and all the local stores looking for a copy?

I tend to differ, this has been an ongoing issue for MONTHS! Not everyone n the world want to order everything from Amazon, sometimes you're at the store and are willing to pay a few extra bucks to take the movie home and watch it the same night.

So there is a NEED for this thread, because ordering from Amazon does not resolve this issue for everyone. If I order it from Amazon, that's not gonna change the fact that the same movies are almost never available at B&M stores, and that's what this thread is about.

And by the way, I see far more WORTHLESS Threads on this forum, so please dont get me started with the "No need for this thread" comment....this is a REAL issue that has been brought up before and it has not been remedied months later.

Again, this is not about the fact that I can get around this problem and pre-order the movie from Amazon, its about the fact that Fox never ships enough copies of their new BD catalog titles to B&M stores...There is a big marketing/distribution gap here... All other studios do not have the same problem, it's only FOX.

Ordering from Amazon is like putting a bandaid on the problem, the problem still exists....and its FOX NOT SHIPPING CATALOG TITLES to B&M stores, and if they do ship them, they are in limited quantities and the promotion/marketing/distribution is LACKING!

No, I would blame the stores for not ordering or asstorting the catalog titles. Fox does not just send movies to store. They (retailers) actually have to buy them from Fox to sell in their stores. Like it or not this is not a mass market product yet and all new release will not be carried at retail. This is the reason I order all my blu's from Amazon.

I remember looking for a better part of a month when Bram Stroker's Dracula came out on DVD many years ago. This is the pain of an early adopter.

I'm really starting to think that any thread that goes up with this: should be a bannable offense.

It's a rare occasion when a thread with that damned red faced angry emoticon is ever worth two shits.

Another case in point here.

I believe the original poster is trying to emphasize the point that he feels like he SHOULD be able to walk into any given store and purchase these movies when they're advertised as being available.

HOWEVER....

We've all been consumers long enough to know that this isn't how life usually works. If we cling to the concept that we should get whatever we want, whenver we want...we'll usually end up dissapointed.

I think the smartest consumers find the most sure fire ways of making this happen. SO...if you've had such bad luck at B&M stores, why not order from Amazon.com? The prices are usually better (or at least comparable) to any store you'll go into. It's easy and convenient. And so what if you cant have the title in hand ON release day. At least you'll ensure that you'll be able to get the title at all. Life can be liberating when you're not a slave to instant gratification.

But. I do understand why this topic was brought up.

Perhaps it'll get better when the format becomes more widespread and stores start stocking larger & more expansive amounts of titles.

I personally never had probloms finding non-Fox catalog tiles on the day they are released on BD. And I clearly remember many of us had a hard time finding "The Fly" and "Day After Tomorrow" at stores when they were both released. I would agree with you that it's the store's responsibility to buy the merch, but its all a big coincendence that most of the times this happens, its a Fox catalog title, not Sony or Disney or Warner.
