Default 3/12/08 Ordered Black Hack Down + 5th Element remastered!

Do you like the PQ and AQ? story?

Why was 5th element remastered? It must look even better now

Black Hawk down, Lol I'm one of these people who haven't even seen this movie! I missed a lot of good movies it seems.

Well Now I got 8 titles
I'm just waiting for Amazon.com to ship them. If it werent for this site, I wouldn't even know about the cool 55% off sales!!

Most of the time buying blu ray is cheaper than a CD or a dvd now!!

I am thinking of buying BHD with the Amazon sale. I never saw the original Fifth Element BD but I have the new one and it looks amazing. It is one of the better looking Blu-rays I have personally seen on my tv and it has plenty of colors, etc to show off. One of my favorite movies

Black Hawk Down has some intentional grain in some scenes, but the overall PQ and AQ is top tier. Can't believe you've never seen this movie! You should read the book first.

The Fifth Element Remastered is a good Blu title as well. There are certain scenes in this film that are just incredible in high def.

it was remastered b/c Sony totally botched the transfer. it went from a poor MPEG2 transfer to a stellar AVC encode. the orginal was so poor it hurt blu-ray's status in the format war versus HD DVD's King Kong. the early adopters were in an uproar over how poor it was.

the remaster was actually released to replace the original rather than being a double dip. those who bought the original were able to get the remastered version for free.

i'm sure someone here can post a link to the comparisons of original vs new. i think dvdtalk.com's review has a few comparison shots.

Black Hawk Down = Revelation
5th Element = Excellent PQ but slightly inconsistent.

BHD was an excellent transfer. Especially for an mpeg 2 release...

I've got quite a few blu rays now, and there is such a variety on quality - probably getting to the quality of the underlying film in some cases. Like The Rock is an amazing picture, as is BHD. The Resident Evil films - some scenes are really sharp. Even a newish film like Day After Tomorrow. The level of detail in it just wasn't the same throughout.

BHD was one of my first Blus and one of the first Blus released and it looks amazing still, and the film isn't too bad either.

Any film where Orlando Bloom dies in the first half an hour is a AAA for me.

Actually, Orlando Bloom's character (PFC Blackburn) did not die (in real life or in the movie). He was injured from the fall and was taken out of the fight early. That is all.

Not to hijack the thread, but Orlando Bloom (Pvt. Blackburn) doesn't die in the film. He lives, although you don't really know this until the last scene of the movie, which begins with a voiceover of Sgt. Eversmann (Josh Hartnett) talking to the (deceased) Sgt. Pilla.

Personally, I think that Black Hawk Down looks and sounds very good. I also consider it one of the best combat movies ever made thus far, right up there with Full Metal Jacket.

Ok, then let me rephrase it.

Any film there Orlando Bloom gets severely hurt in the first half an hour is an AAA for me.

That better?

Slightly. You mean "Any film where..." - not "there". But typos aside I think we all understood your dislike of Orlando Bloom with your last post, and I agree that for the most part that his somewhat milktoast performances don't help movies. While I enjoy watching the Director's Cut of "Kingdom of Heaven" a stronger performance by Bloom would have been welcome. Maybe even a different leading actor. I was just clearing-up an un-true statement with movie "fact".

Many hate Orlando Bloom as he appears to more girly than Kiera Knightly.
