How good is the sound in the 5th element? Have a buddy coming by and was wondering if this is a good audio choice

you may have the first release. if memory serves, people thought the transfer was so bad that they remastered it. if you search the movie section, youll see two versions. one with pcm and dd, the other with pcm and tru hd

That's bad news. The video on your version is not good at all. You need an upgrade for sure.

The remastered version is awesome, both video and sound. It's one of my demo disks.

From what I hear, Sony is still replacing the PCM only disc for the new remastered one.

You can call them at 800-860-2878.

The Dolby TrueHD track is 20 bit, the uncompressed PCM track is 16 bit on the Remastered version.

Yep, whilst not perfect this film's remastered blu ray has stunning AQ and PQ.

The sound is rather good on it. It's good in both PQ and AQ actually, but everyone has already said that.
