Default Help picking a HDTV...

I am looking for 50-52" and 1080p/24. I am not picky on DLP, LCD, or Plasma. Although, the Pioneer Kuro's have caught my eye. It will be hooked up to a PS3 and a Onkyo TXSR605. I have $2-3K to spend. Any suggestions are appreciated, especially if you can tell me the ones to stay away from.

With your budget, I would spring for the Pioneer 5010FD. It may cost a little more than $3K altogether, but there is no other display that matches or beats it other than the Pioneer Elites, but that is beyond your budget.

Also, the TV will be in a cutout in the wall, so the heat it gives off is important since it will stay in the hole and reflect out in to the room. Which generally gives off less heat between LCD and Plasma?

The Pioneer is probably the best, but check out the Sony XBR 4. Watch the blacks on the Sony and the Pioneer. No other can produce such a black background as these two. This is important. The Sony is hard to beat with a good player hooked up and about 2000.00 cheaper. Just an idea.

Default Samsung 5271 vs. Sony XBR ?

I had both side by side for two weeks, and returned the Sony. It can't handle fat moving objects as well as the Samsung, even without the motion enhancements. The Sony made me dizzy. You can see the differences at a dealer if they have specific content. In PA, Tweeter has very specific content that shows the differences. Bottom line if you can deal with the shiny glass on the Samsung, it is a better TV. Blacks are better than the Sony too.

definitely get a plasma...as for which ones...id say pioneer/panny/samsung are all good choices (and id rank them in that order)

but if you really want a lcd, the sony xbr is tough to beat

With that budget, I think the new Panasonic models would be perfect for you. This model specifically TH-50PZ85U
