I think they're waiting until they can do BD's equivalent to IME. Shouldn't be long, but I wouldn't expect it and others with IME until early next year.

WHV Announces New Blu-ray & HD DVD Titles
Source: Warner Home Video

Warner Home Video has announced the release of seven new high definition titles on October 10. Making their debut on HD DVD are Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory two uniquely different versions of the story about a boy who discovers a magical world after finding the winning golden ticket in a bar of chocolate. In addition, making their HD DVD debuts are Batman Begins and two animated titles: Tim Burton's Corpse Bride and The Polar Express. Making their Blu-ray Disc debut will be Syriana and 16 Blocks.

Batman Begins and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory make their HD DVD debut with In-Movie Experience (IME), the interactive feature allowing viewers to enjoy new ways of accessing interviews and other material -- while the movie is running. The IME for Batman Begins gives viewers a window into director Christopher Nolan's personal journey bringing a new look and new direction to Batman, illustrated with comics, cast comments and behind the scenes footage that gives each scene new meaning. The IME for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory offers rare glimpses into director Tim Burton's creative process, scene by scene, that is at once insightful and turned on its head with comic Oompa Loompa interjections, unexpected chocolate fun facts and pop-ups.

I'm looking forward to it. It'll be well worth the wait and we all have plenty of other great BD discs to enjoy in the meantime.

A BD demo playing in a Samsung BD player has Batman Begins and some other Warner title. Btw, Batman Begins on that demo had slightly more edge sharpness than the IMAX presentation I saw of it.

Default Batman Begins on Blu-ray

So when will Batman Begins be available on Blu-ray? There are many Warner Bros. titles available on both Blu-ray and HD DVD. Come on Superman Returns is on both formats, and Batman Begins is a better movie.

Like other posters have said, Warner has gone on record stating that they do not want to put out an inferior version of Batman Begins on Blu-Ray that HD-DVD proponents and BD detractors would point at and laugh. They want the film to have the same In-Movie Experience features as its HD-DVD counterpart and they are waiting until they have the capability to incorporate those features on a Blu-Ray Disc. Apparently there will be BD authoring tools available to the studios in the not too distant future that can do this if they have not recently become available, and Warner is playing the waiting game until then. As for a lossless soundtrack however, no one knows knows if Warner will continue to leave those out on their BDs.

Yep....the news is that it will be an hd dvd port which = a soft looking picture
There is no reason to get excited ...if there not re-doing BB for BD on a 50gb disc IMO.

Maybe PCM ...will be something to look forward to.

We'll see. I think you, me, and everyone else will be getting this on day one no matter what and probably be pretty enthusiastic about it.

But yes, I'd like to see it done to take full advantage of what BD can do, for sure.

LOL... I was thinking the same thing. Soft picture or not, I'm still making a purchase.

I will be getting it for the PCM audio....and you know as well as I... that its not really much sharper than the sd dvd upconverted on an Onkyo sp 1000 for instance.

Batman Begins was the ONLY reason I bought into HD DVD. Needless to say I was very dissapointed in the transfer. Despite being a dark film it is extremely soft no matter what Amir and his VC-1 cronies claim. Unless WB's puts a PCM track on this I'll pass.
