Default Sony rear projection Lcos

Why would Sony quit making their rear projection sxrd TVs I have the 60" and my picture quality blows my brothers Mits. DLP away. I paid $2000 at CC about one year ago. If I want to by another 60" tv what will my choices be? A $6000 LCD. Thats 3 times what I paid for mine.

I was in a similar place -- my first HDTV was a rear proj. 52". When I decided I wanted to get a newer set, there was just no way I could afford a comparable size in the model I wanted (LCD), so I had to downsize.

I am much happier however -- to me the PQ has always been the most important and in those terms, my new set blows the old one away.

Sony has invested $250 milllion into OLED R&D just last month, so hopefully we will see something bigger then 11" next year. But for the mean time, for now, Samsung is still putting out some very nice DLP, as long as you don't see rainbows & don't mind wobulation.

I'm in the same boat. I've been waiting for the right time to upgrade out of my 46" Samsung 720p DLP, and that 60" Sony A3000 was looking awfuly attractive. I waited a little too long.

The upside is that with a pure focus on LCD tech and the retooling of old SXRD rear projector factories to spit out the new 2008 LCDs, I'm hoping that some economies of scale will kick in and push the prices of the new line down, or at least keep us at parity with this year's sets.

The eventual 52" XBR6 or XBR7, whenever they are announced, will probably be my next television.

I'll tell you exactly why, it the ignorant of the masses. Most anyone can tell you that looking at the encasement of a plat-panel is way cooler than that a rear projection. And we all know that the picture quality is far more important that the encasement. With that being said, the masses do not do the extensive research what most videophiles and soon to be videophiles nornally do. Also, most mid to high end range electronics (such as most SONY electronics) are not sold in more mass marketable stores such as Wal-Mart. So what happens when the masses are "wowwed" over that cool looking flat panel HDTV??? You guessed it, the common implusive, financed purchase. Therefore, if the SONY SXRD's are not as profitable because of the ignorant of the masses, it's not worth SONY's investment, quality product or not. Or course this is a generalization, but you guys get the picture. I'm not saying that everyone who does the research will automatically buy a SONY SXRD HDTV. All I'm saying is that how many out there paid for a flat panel HDTV of similar size and features while paying way more or those who paid for a smaller with less features for about the same of an SXRD of similar price? How many of those would have bought an SXRD if they had only known???
