Default Standardized Cases

I thought with the advent of hi def movies that the industry would finally do some standardized cases. They certainly looked standardized from afar, but they aren't. I bought my first three blu ray movies and each had a different case. And then there is Fox with their darker blu cases.

Its enough to drive a guy nuts.

I still can't find double disc blu ray replacement cases. My copy of POTC: AWE has a nice gouge in the plastic.

they never had standardized cases with DVD, and I doubt they ever will with blu.

Actually I noticed that with ID4 and I, Robot that they have new cases. Where the spine is about to round out completely, it flattens out. I don't really like them. I like the thin ones that Sony and BV use mostly. They take up the least amount of space.

Not only that, but the ones I imported from UK are just as thick as a SD-DVD case!

its annoying. the blu ray group should just set a standard. I would think the blue color would be something set because its ties into Blu Ray as a trademark.

Then no one would make them. Each manufacturer has their own proprietary hub design. A thousand things, even the altitude can affect the final color of plastic when it cools.

The studios can indicate a preference in which case is used, but fo the most part all you're seeing is what pressing facility they happen to use and who has that contract. Sony DADC/Panasonic tend to use the Elite (embossed) cases, while Deluxe and Cinram are using the stamp logo cases and so on. When either runs out, they tend to go with whatever they can get/are available.

There will be other color cases for Blu eventually, custom packaging like the WB "Book" packaging for Bonnie and Clyde

That book packaging is terrible.

I wonder if Target will exchange my gouged POTC: At Worlds End for a new one without a damaged case.

I ordered two different blu ray replacement cases. Sadly no two disc, so my Pirates of the Caribbean At Worlds End is stuck with the gouge.

Honestly, I can't see Denver as a manufacturing city.

I agree 100%...

Its f*cking ridiculous...just choose 1 variation of Blu...1 stanadard case. One thats pleasing to the eye, provides enough space for the title, actors names, and all that necessary stuff.

While they're at it could they get rid of those annoying stickers that seem to crowd some disc cases.

I believe the vast majority of Universal's DVDs and HD DVDs, and I'm guessing Blus sooner or later are pressed in Mexico City (why MC is sticking in my head I don't know). At the very least they're somewhere in NAFTAville

He's a Cubs fan - he knows all about the whining.

But come on $30+ a movie, I expect a little quality for the disc and the case.
