Default about the BD cases

Isn't there a standard at all regarding the cases the movies are shipped in? more and more movies comes with this terrible thick cases they used on DVD - what is wrong with using those smaller ones?

Talk about wasting space

Dont know where you're from, so I'll sum it up:

3 main cases:
Amaray UK - 15mm
Elite - 12mm
Amaray thin/Scanavo - 10mm

Sony/Disney (except UK) - 10mm
Warner Bros (except UK) - Elite 12mm
Fox (except UK AND Germany) - Elite 12mm

UK (besides small companies ITV or now defunct Tartan) always uses Amaray 15mm (thick as DVD).

hi! Im from Sweden so many releases here are the same is in the UK exept for some titles..

ok, I see.. its sad that they can't be pushed to use that 10mm case.. which is handier looks better and I get much mor titles on less space =)
I can udnerstand that the 15mm might be used when they, like Disney did with the pinnochio release puts in a DVD aswell making it a three disc release.. but otherwise look at pirates of the carebean.. all three are double disc releases put in 10mm case.. looks so nice.

but again thx for the info, then I know there isn't really a standard at all like it more or less is on DVD.

To add to this:
Paramount (US) - 12mm
Universal (US) - 10mm/12mm <- whats up with that
Universal (Norway) - 15mm <- again, wtf?

I wish there was a standard sett for this, and btw the only reason all UK releases use 15mm is because of those ugly BBFC age marks on the spine...

They come in variations just like DVDs do, as there are many providers for the cases. The distributors and studios buy them from wherever, but essentially they're all different. I've noticed that recently they're using more than one type/size of case, though, For example, Disney/Pixar's Wall-E is in a 12mm case, and A Bug's Life is in a 10mm case.

As for why they do this, I'm not at all sure, I'm not sure why they did it with DVDs, either.
