I would definitely NOT recommend AVG, I have known many people who have used this and it is terrible, plus they are very slow on updating the virus defs. I would try Trend Micro PC-cillin 2008, that would be the next best after Symantec and McAfee.

I got out of paying for Anti-Virus programs. The biggest thing I hated was paying yearly for definition updates.

Norton seemed only to pick up a few things while left alot of them uncovered.

I would recommend Avast.

Its free, updates are free, it scans e-mail, computer, has real time detection/protection when surfing the web.

Download the Home edition, which is the free version

AVG is good, and you can't argue with free.

Ignoring price, the best virus protection is Kaspersky.

Trend Micro and Kaspersky are both wonderful. Mcafee & Norton are resource hogs. And Norton...ugh. Ever try to remove it? You need a freaking designated TOOL, it's so convoluted!

I use Avast on my PC. It updates itself and is free as said before.
Of course, I mostly use a Mac, so I agree with that thought as well.

Trend Micro Internet Security

Works great, and depending on your settings, it can either be a pain in the butt or be pretty useful. What I like about it is that it is easy, and has removed most of those annoying Flash Animation Ads that lots of sites has. It considers them "Undesirable"
Pretty cool. Costs $90 for 3 computers I think. Not absolutely sure.
