Just to clarify, yes, you can copy the CD audio onto your PS3 HDD without losing any quality via the method above, but it will NOT be "lossless" audio as we have come to know it, seeing as the CD was "only" mastered at 44.1/16 to begin with.

It may not be lossless on a technical level, but I think you could achieve it beyond any conceivable doubt by just importing to aac at a ridiculously high bitrate. Something like 256-512 kb/s? At that point, there is simply very little reason the codec would need to throw anything useful out.
