(my comments are in bold)
http://www.smarthouse.com.au/Gaming/Industry/U9C2F7B5 "After several days of internal consideration Microsoft executives have said that they will not be producing a Blu ray Xbox 360. Instead the Company is working on a brand new gaming and entertainment solution that will replace the current Xbox 360." " Figured they were "The device will go head to head with a new home console from Sony that is both a gaming console and content management system. It is not expected to be launched untill late in 2009 or early 2010." 2009!!! Are you kidding me Microsoft! You just came out with the 360 2 and a half years ago and you are talking about releasing a console as early as next year! Wow! There is no way in hell you are EVER going to recoup your losses trying to get into people's living room, XBOX lost you billions, 360 is still in red and by announcing a new console, people are going to be holding off on 360s buying and just waiting for your next piece of sh1t! "In Australia senior Telstra executives have said that the future is not Blu ray but Blu ray quality content delivered over an IP network or via content kiosks. Telstra have also said that they want to deliver both games and entertainment content to both the new Sony and Microsoft devices with consumers given the option of either downloading the content to the device or picking up the content from storage kiosks located at Telstra mobile stores and at key public transport hubs." Its been discussed 3 million times why this is retarded, I hope those new Xbox 720 owners or whatever its called have blazing internet service. Once the word is out you gotta be in an area that has really fast internet service and you gotta bone up the extra cash for it, this will be FAILBOX #3 from MS. "David Moffett the Group Managing Director, Telstra Consumer Marketing & Channel met with several global Companies including Microsoft at the 2008 CES event in Las Vegas and he is adamant that the future is IP delivery of content over Blu ray. He is also working to deliver content to kiosks in over 1700 locations so that consumers can pick up games and HD 1080p content. He also believes that Toshiba made the right decision in pulling out of the HD DVD content battle and that they will benefit from the transition to IP based delivery over time." and the bitrates are going to be so poor that upscaled DVD is going to look better. MS just get out of the business, you don't know what you are doing. |

The title of the article says Sony & Microsoft To Roll Out New IP Gaming Consoles. Are you guys so biased to ignor the sony part and only bash microsoft? They happened to throw a random date for microsofts machine in there. Now im not a fan of microsoft at all, but im not about to tear apart an article leaving out important facts so I can bash one company. I highly doubt we will see another console by the beninning of 2010.
The device will go head to head with a NEW home console from SONY that is both a gaming console and content management system Stop reading inbetween the lines.... |

If they actually release it that soon the next Xbox (1080?) will be released about the same time the PS4 is released. People complained about the PS3 for being to expensive well you have to buy 2 Xbox's over the lifespan of the Playstation. There were reports that many of the first year games for the 360 were supposed to be for the original Xbox but they told them to push it back so they would be on the 360. But now everyone knows their will only be games on their system released in the 2 years so releases will be winding down. The PS3 is just getting started this year.

They're working on something like the PSX. A home media center/360 combination that can also run PC games is what he's referring to. Sony is working on something similar. This thing is supposed to be a hub. Control your lights, thermostat, music/PVR, whatever. Microsoft has made it quite clear they want to eliminate the optical drives all together. And they might just manage it for this media box. For the 720? Hell no. That won't show up until 2011 at the earliest. Besides, every attempt at boxes like this has been a collossal failure, PSX included, especially in a country where people get the vast majority of the features they offer from their cable companies already. Notice this is also targeted at Australia, where packaged media sales suck for game companies due to many factors. |

Why would I want to go through all the trouble of finding a Kiosk to download a game when I can just go to a store and buy it?
How giant of a hard drive am I gonna need for Bluray-quality games? Why in the hell would I want to waste time downloading a 50gig game when I can just go to the dozens of stores in a 5km radius and just buy it? A had a discussion with a friend of mine about kiosks. There is absolutely not one meaningful benefit of buying from a kiosk over buying from a store. Not one. Sure there will always be downloadable games, look at the PSN. But theres no way in hell id buy a gigantic game like MGS4 as a download. Last edited by Luis_A51; 03-19-2008 at 05:18 PM. |
