you will have to be alittle more specific: wireless, wired, digital, analog, mp3 streaming or computer audio out. you could run a cable from the sound card to stereo in on the receiver, output digital from your sound card (if you can) to the receiver, output 5.1 analog to the analog in on the receiver.

I guess I just want to plug my computer into the receiver and have the noises play over the surround sound speakers, for when I hook up my TV as a monitor.. I will just be listening to mp3's and the random clicking noises an whatnot..

2 main ways, if you have a HDMI output on your comp or if you get one of them Y cables from radioshack. the wire has a headphone jack on one end and a 2 connectors for av cables on the other so you can plug in the red and white audio cable. Then plug in the headphone jack part in to the comp and the red white cable in to the receiver.

heres what you need

Best way for me, plug in the optical cable (a lot sound cards have it) to the optical in of the receiver. Now movies will get DTS surround sound.
All sounds should play!

Be sure to assign an input on the receiver. Thats it!

That's good. I have a few extra optical cables lying around. Do all Apple laptops have an optical connection?

i believe all of the new ones do not sure about the older ones, also not just any optical cable will work it has to have the mini optical end on it as the optical port on the apples is also the headphone jack, the mini end looks like this

i am getting a macbook in a few weeks as part of my sae tuition i am sooooo exited to use mac , i have always built and used windows pc but wanted a mac lol

If you wanna do wireless considering your new Mac has bluetooth get the Motorola Bluetooth Stereo Gateway D800

http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-DC800.../dp/B000BQK7EM

it uses an RCA (red and white) cable in to ur Onkyo inputs.
My laptop and receiver are about 20ft away and it works great.
