Sony Pictures The Crown: The Complete First Season (2016)

Netflix's The Crown: Season One will be released on Blu-ray on November 7th, distributed by Sony Pictures.

Quote:
The Crown focuses on Queen Elizabeth II as a 25-year-old newlywed faced with the daunting prospect of leading the world's most famous monarchy while forging a relationship with legendary Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill. The British Empire is in decline, the political world is in disarray, and a young woman takes the throne....a new era is dawning. Peter Morgan's masterfully researched scripts reveal the Queen's private journey behind the public facade with daring frankness. Prepare to be welcomed into the coveted world of power and privilege and behind locked doors in Westminster and Buckingham Palace....the leaders of an empire await.

Really enjoyed the show, but not sure if I'd really want to buy it... depends on the price.

At least they're putting it out BEFORE season 2 starts in December, even some network shows don't do that stuff.

I'm shocked at the lack of bonus features, all those beautiful sets and locations.. I would have thought a show like The Crown would have a bunch of extras :/

My wife loved the show. It took a while for her to wear me down to watch it. It's a quality show, details are excellent and great acting. It's a period piece of sorts, but I found it to be very, very good. I tend to prefer my Longmire to Voltron to Game of Thrones.... We're watching Season 2 this weekend.

I just finished Season 2 and I think it's even better than the first. No need for the BD, personally, but it's a quality show for those pondering a purchase. It'll be interesting when they switch up actors for Season 3.

I agree, after watching the first 2 episodes of season 2 I was a bit worried but it got so much better.

I'm not looking forward to new actors, I love the ones we have at the moment as do most of the fans, I really hope it doesn't backfire on them. there is a rumour going around that the Crown season 3 won't be released until 2019

Really no reason to buy the Bluray, it kind of sucks! they could have gone to town with bonus features.

Well, Olivia Colman does a good bit of stuff, maybe that's just as soon as they could get it filmed and released. 2019 would suck, but what can we do lol I don't think it'll backfire, not like they can keep going with two younger actors when they need to be in their 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s...

They can do it with makeup and prosthetics

I wrote about that on the TV thread, but no, you can't encase the entire cast in in increasing amounts of prosthetics for for the rest of the series and for them to try and act through that, it would completely undermine the reality of the series. On women especially old age make up rarely looks convincing. Look at Once Upon a Time in America, they just about got away with it with the men and but they didn't even try with Elizabeth McGovern, the old age make-up tests looked ridiculous. So they featured her in only one scene in the 60s and covered her face in lotion while she was removing her stage make up.

Claire Foy never particularly looked like Elizabeth II and in old age the Queen put on weight and her face became round and homely. No amount of prosthetics can make Foy's angular features convincingly look like that and its almost impossible to convey subtle emotions through layers of latex. Coleman has the right features for the Queen in middle age and she's an amazing actress. All the performances are closely based on the mannerisms and accents of the real people the actors play and that will provide enough continuity.

True, but even House of Cards never got bonus features, so it seems like anything on Netflix doesn't unless the production company wants to actually pay for them. Their Marvel shows don't get any either, and you know they would have a decent amount too if given the opportunity. The only thing that comes to mind that actually has any is Orange Is the New Black, and that's because of Lionsgate I would imagine.

Heard a lot of good things about this show. Did a blind buy on the Collectors Edition for $25, on Amazon Arrived in crispy minty condition.
A shame there’s no digital code, but still very happy with this release. Looking forward to watching it.

It's coming in the UK & Germany in October, in case it doesn't get released in the US then at least there are some other options available.

Since season 3 isn't starting for a while, I'd imagine they're just waiting for it to almost start to release s2.

Yeah I don’t think Sony will drop it. It’ll probably just get released later in the US.
