Default Digital Optical Cable Splitters/Switches

It's likely this has been covered, but I need to ask, I have only one Digital Optical cable input on my receiver and have my blu-ray plugged in there. I want to run another from my cable box or TV for broadcast surround sound instead of a bunch of cables and drilling more holes through my oak bookcase. My receiver is buried in a cupboard below my TV with no room to be constantly switching DO cables. I have seen DO cables switches that have been poorly reviewed. Is there a DO cable extender ? Any suggestions ?

....I'm desperate or buying a new receiver, and that won't go over well with the Mrs.
