So, went to my local Frys and finally found the TV I want at the price I want. I put a hold on it and I'm picking it up tomorrow. Some Frys employees kept trying to upsell me on some warranty plans. Are any of these worth looking into tomorrow when I go back to pick it up?
I'm so stoked right now... a 55" 1080P/24fps HDTV for $1259!!! ![]() |

As far as the extended warranty, I never buy them, but that is a personal decision. |

you guys will love this. I bought mine from Crutchfield for $1799, then two days later they put it on sale for $200 bucks cheaper. So I got the difference refunded back to me. Plus the 18 months no interest through sony!

I have an SXRD too, mine is the XBR2 and at this very minute a repair guy is replacing the light engine (not the bulb). While it is just barely under the 1 year manufacturer's warranty, I used the extended warranty that I purchased to deal with this problem.

I have an SXRD XBR1, and there was a known issue (known well after I bought it) with the light engine processor bleeding colors either in the center or edges of the screen. I did by the extended 5 year ($500) warranty through Circuit City when I got. My light egine did die, and was replaced under warranty. FYI, the light engine for the SXRD is about $1200.00
I still have 3 years on the warranty, and VERY glad I bought it. I don't get the warranties for small ticket items, but for TV's, they are so hit or miss sometimes. Just my $.02 Mark |

If the set you are purchasing is a floor model, I would definitely get the extended warranty. I have the A2000 series and bought a 4 year extended warranty for $299, and it includes one bulb replacement (which costs the same as the warranty).

Get a Mack warranty through AVS.
3Yr. in addition to the manufacturer's, plus up to 2 bulb replacements. That's: 3Yrs. Bulb coverage for up to 2 bulbs 4Yrs. General coverage 5Yrs. Optical block coverage All for about $200. This is the cost of a bulb pretty much. They use the same authorized service people as the manufacturer. I got a 60" for $1700 and got this for $205. Great deal in my opinion and well worth the peace of mind. |

http://tapeworkstexas.com/mack_warranty_combo.html Basically, after purchasing it online, they send you they contracts which you then go back online and register. The one hitch with Mack is that you have to get the warranty within 30 days of purchase, so don't wait too long because it's a great deal and they are solid to work with from what I heard on AVS. |

Thanks. I'll enjoy it. Already did a little last night. Hopefully that AVS warranty will still accept me like I originally planned. Fry's didn't tell me it was a refurb until now which kinda puts the warranty up in the air. The warranty place said they would take an open box display model as long as it was sold as "new". Which technically, according to the receipt, it was. I just hope if something does go wrong with my TV down the line, I don't get screwed when the technicians come out and look at the back of it and see that it is a refurb and have it void my warranty. With it being a display model, the bulb has already seen its fair share of use, meaning that warranty would've been a great deal for me.
