Default Fry's Doubling Space for Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD

At our Fry's in Indianapolis, they have doubled the shelf space of Blu-ray but have not changed it for HD-DVD.

Just a month ago, Fry's had the same shelf space for Blu-ray and HD-DVD. Now they have doubled the Blu-ray selection, so you have 2/3 Blu-ray and 1/3 HD-DVD.

Is this yet another sign of the end of the format war?

The Best Buy near me has the same size Blu-ray and HD-DVD shelving, but they have a separate Blu-ray display stand in one of the large isles, by the new releases.

They also have a Sony BD player Demo AND a Samsung BD player Demo, both on the front of the DVD isles, set up to display the players, not the TV's. Blu-Ray plastered at the front of each isle!

No HD-DVD machines were set up for display, just sitting on a shelf with the LG dual format.

My brother works at Besy Buy and he told me there is alot of Blu-Ray movies that are in the back that aren't even on display compared to HD-DUD they have little to no inventory at all. BTW that BBY has two 4 ft. sections for Blu & DUD but they do have a sled with more Blu-Rays next to the new releases and also in the Home Theatre dept.

The Fry's store here in Plano Texas has done the same thing and the HD-DVD section is getting smaller. Great sign!

I work at a local target but they've yet to change their set. Proabably when
the fall/christmas set get's done hd-dvd will be. They split a 4 foot section
down the middle but i keep telling em hd-dvd's already dead and keep waiting for the space to go all blu. Sooner rather than later this'll all be sorted out.

I looked yesterday when I picked up my $12.50 movies at Fry's in SD. Both formats had the amount of room. I had to back up to get it all in my line of sight.

Three people were looking at the Blu-Ray movies, no one was looking at the HD-DVD movies.

I work at the Best Buy in Arlington, Tx....we have just as large a blu-ray as we do hd-dvd....other than our racetrack display and sony display....which pisses me off cause for some reason we only carry like 1/2-1/4 or all the blu-rays in store...the rest are online only
if we would just carry the others, customers would see how much they outnumber hd dvds and further influence the format war....(guess it's best buy trying to remain neutral since we sell both?)

Default Shelf Space

I have 3 BBY's in my general area:

Wentzville, MO (new store): Blu-ray has twice the shelf space as HD DVD, both have their own type of "end-cap". Has an HD display playing movies/demo for both Blu-ray and HD DVD.

St. Peters, MO: Both have equal shelf space, but Blu-ray has a huge "rolling" display in isle the size of an additional 4' section. There is only one HD display and it is for the Blu-ray demo.

Chesterfield, MO: Same as St. Peters, MO

*The T store closest to me has equal shelf space for both formats but, has a huge new end-cap with HD display of PS3/Blu-ray demo, with additional movies and info. No display for HD DVD.

O'Fallon, MO: The WM store here has twice the shelf space for Blu-ray (about 20 titles) as HD DVD.

Lake St. Louis, MO: The WM store here has twice the shelf space for Blu-ray as HD DVD, same as O'Fallon, except there are additional wire hanging displays with mostly Blu-rays near 3 end caps as well.

I guess that ends my report!

Fry's in Industry CA has 2:1 in Blu-ray's favor. It's a growing trend.

Fry's in Sunnyvale CA has been like this for some time now... perhaps the beginning of the trend (Silicon Valley Rocks! )...

Yeah I work at the Wal Mart right near Fry's in Indianapolis and have noticed this myself. They seem to have a great selection and better pricing on some titles than Best Buy.

Don't even have a B&M Fry's in my state, one state over and I'm not driving 6 hours!

At least there's on-line, but I still haven't gotten over that 300 stunt. I guess I should...

No Frys here....but I went to Wally World looking for the reported early Patriot release which they did not put out early in this store.
What I did see is that there were 30 BD slots compared to only 12 for hd dvd, and that the only stand alone remains the Philips for 498.00.

CC locally has a decidedly bigger BD selection, and BB has more BD titles than hd dvd titles.
