Question regarding Firmware and regions!!! - Blu-ray Forum

Hiya,

I was just browsing the other week to find a firmware update for my BDP-S500. The firmware stared that this was for European players only.

Here is the Question...

If a European region B player was updated using a US patch, would the player then be upgraded to US standards, and hence become a region A player? It's just one of them things that has been buzzing around in the old brainbox since I seen the message on the site for European players only.

Hi Kristy, I have the BDP-S300. It has 3.70 firmware, not the newest 3.8. I decided NOT to upgrade the firmware because my unit is functioning perfectly right now. I will only upgrade when I have to. Right now it's all good.

ha. no... It would remain a region B player. Would be cool though.

It probably depends on the specific manufacturer, unit, firmware, etc. On another site, someone claims to have successfully updated a US Yamaha HTR-6190 receiver with firmware for a European RXV-1800 receiver.

He claims the update was successful, but it didn't turn his 6190 into a 1800.

I'd be scared to try such a thing myself.

I did with my US Sony BDP-S300 installing version 3.80 or European firmware. Nothing happened.
