how does it work

my bdp-s300 has recently stopped reading blu-ray discs, but has no trouble with dvd's. i was curious as to whether there was 2 lenses in a bdp? or does one lens read both dvd and blu-rays. i have an old dvd cleaner thing that has a little brush on the disc, will this get the blu-ray lens as well?

edit: just to add, it won't play some blu's at all anymore.
