Default PSP regioned??

I don't know if this has been discussed or not, but I know we have a lot of users on here on the international front. I am going to Italy this summer to visit family and I want to bring some gifts over to my cousins there. I was planning on buying a couple PSP's, but I just have a question, are the games regioned locked that the PS3 games?

PSP games are region free. However, UMD movies are not. I own PSP games from US, Japan, and the UK and they all play fine.

Edit*- I've heard some games in certain regions are locked. But it would be in the minority.

The PSP does have partial regional lockout, and uses the same regions as DVD. As of February 2006, the lockout is only used for UMD movies and not for games, although Sony has hinted it is up to the developers if they want to include region restriction in their games. As of February 2007, copies of Battlezone for the PSP that are released in certain countries are region restricted, however it is unknown if there are other region-restricted PSP games in the market.

Don't try importing a PSP, or Sony will send Matrix-styled lawyers to your place to issue you a cease and desist letter.

Not kidding!

Hmm, I didn't realize any games are locked. I guess developers don't generally bother.

I think SOME games are region locked...

When my parents went to Japan last year to visit family, I asked them if they could find the PSP camera peripheral for me. With the help of my cousins over there, my mom was able to pick one up for me, and it included an editing software UMD (like the eyecreate program for the Playstation Eye). This UMD boots up on my PSP-1000 (haven't tried it with my new 2000, hmm... maybe I should), but beyond the initial menu screen, it doesn't do anything.

I'm not sure if the editing software counts as a "game" though. It wasn't a big deal to me anyhow, as the North American PSPs still support the camera, and the disk isn't necessary to take pictures and video. I was going to ask my mom to pick me up the GPS and TV tuner peripherals too, but... the GPS requires software (map packs?) to work abroad, or in my case domestically here in North America, and that would have been a pain in the ass trying to get my parents to find the right software pack (IF it would work on my PSP).

UPDATE: It turns out, the Chotto Shot UMD (the software that came with my PSP Camera) does indeed work on my PSP-2000 (White Vader version) while it did not seem to work on my old PSP-1000 (Launch handheld w/ the Spiderman 2 UMD). Now, I just wish my Japanese literacy skills were better... Hiragana/Katakana is so-so (I have to sound out the words) and my Kanji is non-existent. Slow going understanding/translating the in-game menu...
