External hard drive on PS 3 posible? - Blu-ray Forum

Is the PS 3 capable of recognizing an external hard drive for music and video play? Also will it recognize I tunes and quick time? i would like to use one with the PS 3 to hear my music and videos .

As far as I know you can use any external hard drive with a PS3.

music no problem. videos are dependent on format. if it is in several TS DVD files, they cannot be chained together into one viewing. you have to play each file individually. dunno about itunes but it does not recognize quicktime.

you need to format the external HDD to FAT32 i used Swissknife v3 program. i have songs and .vob (movies)

has to be fat 32, much easier just to stream off of your pc and use it as a media server..

it is easier to stream if a lot of your videos or music are in formats that arent supported on the ps3. Once divx support was added to the ps3 i just upgraded the HDD. I still stream my .mkv files though.

It won't recognize iTunes or Quicktime, but you can still play your music files and video files from an external HDD.

I have a 500GB Simpleshare network storage drive. I have Twonkyvision media server running on it so that i can stream audio/video/photo to PS3 without needing my desktop or laptop running.
