External Hard Drive - Blu-ray Forum

I want to hook up my external hard drive to my DVR. I have Dish Network. On their website it says I have to pay them a one time charge of $40 to be able to use the external hard drive. Is there a way around that? Also once I get to using it how do I copy files from the Hard Drive to to my laptop? Are the files encrypted or will it be an easy transfer?

could not find away around it myself, paid the thirty bucks.
