DTS High Resolution has a bitrate HIGHER than 1.5Mbps. Optical maxes out at 1.5Mbps. So DTS HR can't be passed via optical. If you have a BD with DTS HR, there is the DTS Core at 1.5 Mbps that your player can pass via optical.

yep thats what i get ,oh well.I bought my first dts and dolby digital sound system a few weeks ago ive never actually had surround sound so i'll probably enjoy that for a while longer and then upgrade to hdmi system.I think it still sounds great though with never really having a surround system before and i think ive heard people say off here the increase to 1.5mps sounds loads better compared to what they were getting before.

Are there any titles with HR? I looked at the title-by-codec list and didn't see any.

The World's Fastest Indian. A few of Magnolia's early BD releases use DTS HR.

They're listed as just "DTS-HD"

Good stuff. Whenever I saw DTS-HD I thought it was just 1.5 mbps DTS. I'll have to watch First Blood again.

I think that it's stupid that people call DTS-HDHR just DTS-HD. DTS-HD covers 2 seperate audio formats, one is lossy and the other is lossless. That's why you need the HR or the MA after it.

I am curious why on HighDefDigest they say that the DTS-HD High Res tracks are 1.5mbps. I think they might be wrong on that, as the core is 1.5mbps.

Also, it appears Lionsgate uses High Res a little bit.

It's probably because they're not checking the bitrate and assuming. Either way, they incorrectly lists specs quite a bit.

I prefer dts-ma and dts-hr and just skipping the "hd" part altogether.

I don't know why they continue to label 5.1 1.5 Mbps tracks as dts-hr, but it may be because there were only 40 1.5 Mbps theatrical releases on DVD-Video, so most people haven't heard full bitrate dts.

Either way, dts-hr can deliver a 7.1 1.5 Mbps track discreetly which dts-core cannot.
