The good: Picture clarity is stunning! Attention to detail is amazing and Kong is rendered/animated soooooo well. I cannot wait for this to be on blu.
The Bad: It's been re-formatted for 16x9. It's not bad but I would've preferred the original aspect ratio. Except for Kong himself, the cg effects look REALLLLLY fake in high def! Man I am not even exaggerating when I say I had more than one Saturday morning "Land of the Lost" flashback! The compositing between the live actors and the cg creatures are extremely obvious in high def where in standard def it wasn't quite so glaring. Overall though I am still loving it and cannot wait for a blu ray release! |

Yeah, you know what though? TNT for some reason picks and chooses what they do. Some movies, I can't think of any right now but I know it happened, they will just stretch a 4:3 across the whole screen, some movies like King Kong and LOTR, they will condense from a 2.4:1 to a 1.85:1. And then with Titanic and Minority Report (the one remaining non-LOTR or SW title I'm seriously waiting for), they will leave in their original aspect ratio which is 2.4:1.
