Can you use optical cable and HDMI simultaneously from the PS3?

Ok, here'e my dilemna, I own an older JVC receiver that does not have HDMI connections, but my TV does. I want to be able to use my receiver for sound because I have some great BOSE speakers. Is there a way to configure the PS3 to allow an HDMI connection to the TV and an optical connection to my receiver?

I actually have an HDMI connected from my TV to the PS3 and then an optical cable from my audio reciever to the PS3. It works as long as you change the audio settings in the PS3 menu to "optical". That way the audio won't come from the HDMI. At least that's how it worked for me. I'm not an expert since I just got it less than a week ago, but I think that's right.

I can get video through the TV, but when I select optical on the PS3 it doesnn't work. i must be doing something wrong?????????

Do you have an optical cable connected from the PS3 to your receiver?

You CANNOT HAVE the PS3 output audio via HDMI AND OPTICAL. It's one or the other.

Set up the audio on the PS3 settings to optical, through the sound menu.

It should work fine. I have HDMI connected to my TV and optical to my Sony receiver (it's about 6 years old and doesn't have HDMI). My neighbours have moaned about the noise so it certainly works ok

In the PS3 options you have to go to sound options, select optical out, then tick a few boxes to allow things like DolbyDigital and that should work.

Unfortunately you won't be able to get uncompressed audio (PCM/DTSHDMA etc.). The best I can get is the core DTS at 1.5mbps. It sounds perfectly good to me but then I have yet to experience uncompressed audio, so that gives me something to look forward to
