so i was walking in the mall today (Coquitlam Centre for you locals) and i spotted this stall that sold asian dvds as i was browsing i noticed their "new release" section 6 Chinese Blu-Ray movies, i was like woah wtf? i didnt even know these were released in blu-ray! and then i see the price $8.50!! wtf?
i flip to the back of the case and i see it says DVD-9 dolby digital 5.1, i talk to the guy and he's like yeah they're dvds... but the packaging has a blue strip on the top with the Blu-Ray logo and it says Blu-Ray Disc! i forgot to take a picture of it, tomorrow i guess but wow guess the chinese piraters arent able to pirate blu-rays so they're just selling dvds as blus. so anyway hope it doesnt confuse a bunch of ppl on the quality of blu-ray what else is odd is i notice our shopping centres don't care if stores/stalls are selling fake goods. theres one that sells fake LV, gucci, etc purses |

I live in the area as well (though rarely visit the Coquitlam Centre), but yes, it is shocking how many kiosks sell fake goods. Thanks for p[assing on the info though, I'll be sure not to get excited if I ever do pass by there. |

You guys should visit Toronto....you can get pirated dvds for $2.
And new releases are available too, right out of the theaters. I don't buy these though. Some are recorded from the theatre, but some are also dvd quality. Anyways....pirated dvd's are helping kill the dvd market, so I'm not sure what to say. |

I don't see many fake goods out here (CO), but when I lived in NY there were fake goods everywhere. |

Interesting. What you have just described is so unlawful that CBP/ICE would climb all over it given the location in the US. It has been proven lads and lasses, that a major portion fo the funding of bad guys comes from knockoffs. At the street level and the production level. I know because this is what I do for a living. MS loves me for my seizures of fakes BTW.
I know it looks innocent when you walk by a kiosk full of fake LV or Gucci's, but it is really a mess as to where the money goes. It definitly does not go to mom and pop who are acutually forced to sell them sometimes. Now from a quality standpoint. Ladies, I can spot a fake LV from across the mall. Coach, Burberry and the rest as well. It's cheap looking too. Save your money and go get a real one, it will last and those that know will smile at your classiness. |

When I lived in NY..forget about it you could get a new release on the day thats its released or even before on pirated Dvd for about 5 buck, you even get a deal if you buy more that one release plus you get a gaurantee for a free exchange if it doesn't work or it doesn't show properly.
Now the gaurantee is on ly good if you can find the people who sold it to you. |

A local incredibly major mall had a stand selling bootleg asian films in it, and another one selling those "250 games in 1" NES knockoffs. I reported both of them to the manager, and he had someone buy the game system and ship it off to Nintendo, who confirmed to them it was a boot, and the stand was ejected from the mall a week later However the MPAA lawyer who came down there at my request was a clueless moron who knew nothing about Asian film. He was looking for Lord of the Rings or something. I offered to come up there with him and show him, told him to send copies of a list of films to Miramax for confirmation, but nothing ever happened to the stand. So unless you get an MPAA agent with a clue, you're screwed Quote:
