Arrow Marantz Sr4002

Hey guys/gals,
Need your help.I have being looking at the marantz for a while now and want to see if it would work for my setup. I have a Sat HdDvr,Bluray player and an xbox 360(component).I have been told since bluray players do the decoding that the Marantz would allow me to get true hd,etc if It's set to LCPM.The receiver has 1.3a switching and 1.1 repeating. Is this a concern? Most of them have 1.3 repeating. As for the xbox 360,hope you guys can help me out there. If not,I'm going to go the Denon 1909 route, just wanted to see if I needed to spend money on a receiver that the marantz would do cheaper. Thanks

just looked up your player on the marantz site and yes, your reciever will do up tp 7.1 pcm audio via hdmi. so, all you need is a blu ray player that will decode the audio. not all will decode both true hd and dts ma so check the specs. the xbox will do the legacy audio codecs which that receiver does. there really is no special set up with the 360, just tell it what your using.

So the Marantz should be fine?I'm using a Panasonic BD-35 by the way.

Hi I'm using the sr-4002 and you will be fine as long as your BR player does the decoding - it's an awesome receiver

the panasonic BD-35 won't internally decode HD audio, so you won't be able to get DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD with your proposed setup

Well I guess that throws a kink into things - you will need a newer BR player or PS3 to use LPCM on the Marantz or move to the newer sr 5003 and up

from cnet...

The Panasonic DMP-BD35 significantly changes the game. It's a Profile 2.0-compliant player with onboard decoding for both Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, and it carries a $300 list price. Furthermore, it offers excellent image quality on Blu-ray movies and it looks pretty good with standard DVDs as well. In many ways the PS3 is still a better Blu-ray player, especially when it comes to responsiveness and the fact that you can use it play games, stream media, and rent movies. But for home theater fans who just want to watch Blu-ray movies, the DMP-BD35 is the best value we've seen, and so it deserves our Editors' Choice award--the first we've given to a Blu-ray player.

and Panasonic also lists it as decoding those formats as well.

Go with the Marantz SR-5003 or SR-6003 , a much better investment, also it will do internal decoding for DTS-MA & Dolby- True HD,, so down the road if you need it you have it, and dont have to upgrade agian,,,

Would love the 5003,but it's a little more than I want to pay right now.I can get the SR4002 for 250.00 new, friend works for a marantz dealer, and he can't get that kind of a deal on the 5003. My other option is Denon.

I can also vouch for the sr4002. I've had mine for a little over
a month, it's a great receiver for the money!

i've been looking at this one as well, since it's pretty cheap online. Let us know how you like it. I don't think having a receiver that does all the decoding is that necessary in all honesty. I mean, moving forward, most players are gonna be able to do all the decoding anyways, so the only thing you might have to "upgrade" to would be a nice power amp.
Speaking of which, i notice one of the above posters actually owns this amp along with a rotel power amp. I don't have the cash for a power amp currently. Do you think that this receiver is powerful enough to push my Klipsch RF-25's all by it lonesome, without clipping? I'll probably bi-amp the fronts anyways, so i'm sure it'll be fine, but just wanted some reassurance from an actual owner.

Just a side note to the OP. I see the 5002 is priced at $309.00 at accessoriesforless.com
this is the model i was thinking of since it's rated at 90wx7. It is a refurb though, but comes with a one year warranty from Marantz.

Hi just wanted to mention that the Marantz SR4002's 80w per channel will drive your Klipsch just fine. My Paradigms ran just great without the Rotel - I originally purchased the entry level SR4002 with the intention of being used as a pre/pro since a dedicated pre/pro will need to be changed every few years as technology changes. It just made more sense to me to have to change a $600CDN (not what I paid) receiver every few years than a $2500 pre/pro especially since there is a great market for used amps out there

Good to know and thanks for the response. Good thing about receivers is that, in general, the price just keeps dropping if you look hard enough. By the time i'm ready to pull the trigger i'm sure they'll be something "better" in that price range.
