Default Marantz vs. Denon

Hallo,

I write for a question from the BD player to buy...

Marantz BD8002
or
Denon 3800BD

well, the 2 products are from the same "brand D&M" but sure a different is
from the Denon and the Marantz will be "available":
in video quality or in sound...

everybody have one of this two? Are now a bluray from $.2000.- a good investiment or no! Better go with a sony S550 or so like that from a "inexpensive" price from a 1/4 fom the Marantz/Denon or no?
the new Sony will be ready in 6 sec. (to charge a bluray movie) and the marantz/denon? the same or longer.....
A only bd player like DB8002 or 3800BD can be the only in place from a dvd player and a extra bluray player?

thanks for feed back

The Marantz has some of their own tweaks that is supposed to make it a higher end unit.Haven't seen them side by side but from talking to dealers that carry both they say they would go Marantz.Kind of like a Buick over a Pontiac.

Marantz and Denon are owned by the same company. Marantz is though to typically have the edge...

Seen them side by side, no damn difference. Both grossly overpriced. The markup is pretty damn big.

I prefer the Marantz...but I have dont have never listen the 8002 and the Denon too.....I life in Switzerland and the Marantz ismore expensive vs. the Denon (Denon $.2250ca. and the Marantz $.3200!!)

with the Denon 3930 i'm happy and I will replace this 3930 whit a onyl player for the dvd and the bluray too - all in player....but if the Denon or Marantz are not at the level I keep my 3930 and I buy a Sony S550 for $.450ca!!

The Marantz is only in black and now with my new pre/pro and power ampli in silver in not a top in look... (the Denon3930 is too in black!)

the Marantz and the Denon with a XLR I/O will be a good cd player...(I hope)

Other opinion?

I honestly would wait and see how Oppo's Blu-ray player turns out (which is supposed to be coming in the next 3 months). The Denon and Marantz are both excellent players but BD player technology is moving so fast that big changes will occur generation to generation.

I think you should keep your Denon 3930. It is a terrific universal player and will not be "old" news by January when the new rollouts will be announced at CES. That player is there to stay. It does SACD and redbook CD's justice.

The prices on the Marantz and Denon will drop after CES.

Default Denon 3800 is junk

DO NOT BUY A DENON 3800- It's garbage!!!. I had a Denon 3800 that last November decided to stop reading the second layer of a DVD. I took it to the factory authorized repair shop where I live (Portland, OR). They replaced the motor and did some firmware updates. Got it back, same thing. Sent it back to them and they replaced the motor again, did several more firmware updates (how many can there be?), couldn't get it to work and they finally sent it back to Denon in New Jersey for repair.

It sat at Denon for 5 full months before they decided they couldn't fix it and I was out of luck. No updates, no info, no nothing. Apparently, they had problems with their Chinese motor supplier and didn't know when they would get more motors. No offers of a replacement (it was out of warranty), or a re-conditioned unit. Just a "sorry pal, you're S.O.L.!)

Now this might be okay with a cheap POS player but this was almost top-of-the-line when I bought it. Paid almost $2,000 for it. And it became just an expensive boat anchor.

I will never buy another Denon product of any kind in this lifetime or the next and I will tell anyone who will listen to avoid this dreadful manufacturer. I can't tell you how much time I wasted trying to get a straight answer from these flakes and they acted like I was a major annoyance!!

And never, never buy a GE extended warranty. Absolutely, worthless. Between GE and Denon they have set a new standard for fleecing the consumer!! CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!

The BD version was not out but the previous 3800 was, which is what I had.

Thanks for the clarification!

for the amount of money denon asks for their products, you'd expect a longer warranty than one year... but i digress. denon's quality and reliability has been abysmal ever since they moved manufacturing to china. i have a dvd3930ci which crapped out three times in one year. the first died one week after purchase so it was exchanged. after a few months, it started acting flakiy, refusing to play some movies. sent it in, took two months to get it back. worked for a month and crapped out again. now it's out of warranty. it appears that the optical blocks on the 3930 as well as the 3800 fails quite often. anyone considering denon is gambling on a suckers bet...

well the Denon is for me too a little a risk....
I had an Receiver Denon 3808 that has broken 3 times in 2 months!! and also guaranteed after-sales service is poor (paragraphs 1 to 10 -> 0! - Long time, no answer, do not know what do!)
Denon seems fall much below ...
My dvd3930 never had problems but it is a lottery!!!
whether the product works OK, if you have trouble Denon you forget!)

This is also a reason that blocked for me bought the bd3800 ....

@Clark Kent -> I agree 100%, perhaps before putting out $ .2000 .- is still too early ... in 6 months maybe these products are already out of production ...

I have a pre/pro and ampli Classe and if you have a problem you go reviev news, infos, very fast repair, a maschine/gear in place until you return your equipment repaired ... GREAT SERVICE !!! SUPER

in Switzerland Marantz was in B&W group but now the importeur are changed and B&W have decided Marantz NO MORE IN CATALOG!!!
(B&W Switzerland = Rotel, B&W speakers, Classe) --> Marantz OUT to much problem and B&W dont have interess to have a "brand" that bring only problem, is not a good advertisement...

After Christmas certainly much prices fall, new products arrive and then the Denon3930 is sure no bad with standard dvd & cd music ..
perhaps better buy a Classe player for dvd and cd (to have a complet "chain from Classe" and for the BluRay change the S300 with a Sony S550, Oppo, Panasonic or so like that....
(if you have problem with a gear payed $. 400.- is different vs. a player payed $ 2000.- and dont have any assitence, OR??)

Is too a solution...
please feed back.

Thanks Style

I believe the Denon 3800BDCI and Marantz BP-8002 are essentially the same player.

Hi Omar,

I thought you had decided to go with the CDT-300 as your DVD/CD player. If that's the case, then your blu-ray player is only for watching blu-rays right?

In that case, I'd say there is no need to pay the extra $$$ for Denon/Marantz. You're paying a lot of extra money for the video processing of the Silicon Optix Realta chip. For blu-rays, the picture quality is already so good, I doubt the extra money for the Realta chip is worth it. If you're planning on using it to watch regular DVDs, then you may consider these players.

I'd say go with the Sony BDP-S550 or wait for the Oppo (if you can get it in CH).

I have the Marantz and am very happy with it in all regards. I had looked at the Denon but eventually went with the Marantz because of 3 year warranty and what I believed would be fewer bugs then those being experienced by the Denon owner (see AVS forum).

There is nothing negative I can say about the Marantz, and I have had no problems and remain very satisfied. I have 7:1 system and use analogs and sound stage is excellent and picture quality with the Realta chip is first rate. Power-on to load disk time is very quick (compared to my former Sony) and while my Sony was ok, the Marantz is really a great.

I would go with the Marantz and I think you will be very happy.

Hallo garak,

(world is not so big he?!

Yes, the cdp pr cdt 300 is sure the big one...(now you can have one player with a special price if you have buyed the ssp800 --> Classe make a extra 25% discount

I have read from msm (htguide): he say that the cdp/t 300 is not so special??
but i think can replace my Denon3930 without problem and same the ssp800 will work fine.

Yes, at today i have a Sony s300 ONLY for blueray. the Denon 3930 for dvd standard and cd music plus Toshiba HDEX1...
the Sony S550 will be used ONLY for the bluray disc and the Classe for SD and cd music...

Marantz and Denon are from the same brand and I thnk too like BIslander:
Denon 3800BDCI and Marantz BP-8002 are essentially the same player.

But the Marantz have my preferenz....
