Strange and bizarre. I can see why Blockbuster might want to diversify, and Circuit City is certainly a weak link in the retail chain, but I don't see what BBI gets out of it with respect to their core business, aside from perhaps some extra bargaining leverage with content providers?

Didn't they fail with trying to start a blockbuster music chain and now they want to go into electronics and appliances

Perhaps if they own a retail chain they can just continue to do their rentals out of the same building so that they can close all the rental only stores? Maybe they're afraid of the future and see this as a way of compensating for financial losses...maybe the rentals will just be supplemental.

It is not a bad idea to integrate disk rentals, sales and appliances. Interesting.

Being in the Navy and moving around the country alot, CC just let themselves go. All you need to do is blame the management staffs for letting the stores appearance inside and out go to hell. Staff wearing jeans below their butts with holes and their boxers hanging out, shelves looking like crap or not stocked for weeks, DVD and CD sections you can't find anything in, and in one store I saw employees wearing "colors" of the local gang.

If Blockbuster does buy CC they need to do a major managment change and hiring practice improvement or they will just have the same problems. I'll stick with Best Buy for my electronics purchases.

Too right... While I still shop at Circuit City as opposed to Best Buy for big-ticket items (TVs, PS3, etc), I have noticed their attention to detail is lacking in a big way. You can blame the local managers, but it really does go higher than that. Their executive staff has provided no difficult incentives to their regional/district/general managers at all. The middle/lower management have adopted the bare-minimum (think Office Space) mentality... It's really sad...

I don't shop at Best Buy becuase their employees ignored me and my wife on MANY occassions when we were shopping for a TV, regrigerator, and computer. Given our age at the time (lower- mid- twenties), they skipped right over us and went to the older folks that looked like they made more money... Age discrimination.

BUT, this was just me

Blockbuster is actualling reporting a $30 million profit for the last quarter. Blockbuster has a strong promotional relationship with Sony, so I am hoping the deal goes through.

blockbuster is definitely making money and its really putting pressure on netflix also.they already have it hard competing with blobuster stores then imagine if this deal goes thru and they add a rental section at circuit city buy a home entertainment system and if you run out of cash just rent some movie's while youre inside the store

Not a big fan of either stores, Best Buy OR Circuit City.

I honestly don't see how Circuit City could get any worse. Now, mind you, I still buy items from them. I picked up my receiver from them just the other day. BUT, I don't deal with the employees at all anymore, and don't expect them to deal with me, either. They know squat about anything, and I have a feeling I'd get better assistance with goods from monkeys (no offense to any good employees who might be in this thread). It's just my experience. If they do offer to help me with something (answer questions, etc.) it has ALWAYS become clear straightaway that I know more than them.

Whenever I buy now, I do my research on the web, place the order for pickup, walk in and walk out. Easy peasy.

I'd love to be able to walk in and be able to count on great employees, and at one time you could, but times have changed. Maybe being bought out would be a good thing...

Would that mean you can only buy Weinstein movies at Circuit City?
