very good news... gotta love the paramount quote

I think you mean to say the most improved sector - DVD still whips us mercilessly.

but...but...but...player and movie prices haven increased and there are still lots of blu-rays on the shelves at my Circuit City, it doesn't look like they are moving, because people know that downloads are the future. blu-ray will dies shortly after my beloved hd dvd, because if i can't win, i hope nobody wins and we get stuck with a lesser quality product. sarcasm.

If Iron Man is as big as Transformers Paramount could miss out on a lot of sales. Here:
DF titles sold about 62% BD and 38% HDDVD.
Transformers sold 239k last year would have sold 390k on BD going by a 62/38 split.
Sales are up 351%, projecting that as constant through out the year a title like Iron Man (if as successful as Transformers) could actually sell 1.75 Million copies if released the same time this year (10/16) through the end of the year.

That also means 25.65 million discs could be sold this year.

I know the 351% may not actually translate directly to a single title sales as more titles are available, the best way to find increases in title sales would be like titles from last year and compare to this year like: Crank/War or Employee of the Month/Good Luck Chuck but we do not have data available to us to see.

Yep - the same people who said there was no Blu-ray capacity for Universal this year.

But BD was enough to keep the home video sales from falling:

Quote:
DVD unit sales in the first quarter were down 1.2% from the first quarter of 2007.

Overall sales [DVD + BD] were up 1.1%.

I think this is what most of us predicted. As DVD sales slow down, Blu-ray, now that the format war has ended will really take off. I see this as just the beginning, after all, why watch SD when you can have HD on that nice new panel.

It's a no brainer... BD will take over and DVD will go the way of VHS.
