Default Yamaha RX-V1600 Receiver Thread

I have a Yamaha RX-V1600 and a Sony BDP-S300. Will the Yamaha Output 7.1 through HDMI if the BDP-S300 is set to PCM?

If you are talking about TrueHD or DTS HD MA 7.1, then, no, as the player will not decode the signals. In addition, the player will not bitstream the HD audio data nor will the receiver decode it, so your HD audio options are:

1. Replace the BD player with one that has HD audio decoding capability and run analog to the existing receiver.

2. Replace both pieces.

If you are speaking of LPCM 7.1 tracks, then no also. As the receiver supports only 5.1 LPCM.
