Default Microsoft to make their own HD-DVD player?

Bill Hunt at Digital Bits says Microsoft is talking of marketing their own HD-DVD player. Obviously, this means something more than is apparent on the surface. Any ideas? Are they panicing?

Microsoft has also indicated that they may introduce their own branded HD-DVD player - an indicator of just how much the company has invested in the format's success.

I believe that a certain MS VP position is on the line if this also fail.

A HD-DVD player from MS is just an invitation for hackers.

MS-DVD indeed.

Strategically dangerous. HD DVD will lose every Linux and Apple fanboy who are major league anti-MS zealots.

And at some point the justice department takes a look.

It means that they don't give a damn about HD-DVD and they never have, and are even more desperate to sabotage the HD market and the PS3. If it weren't for MS we would only have one format.
