Default Help with media types please?

I just bought a new Dell with dual (2) Blue Ray Burners (Sony) I want to try out using BR discs for storage of photos but not sure which type of media is best to use. I noticed there are choices as far as R vs RW
Is it basically the same as dvd's or cd's? Any info would be helpful before I pick up some blank storage media. Brands would also be helpful if there are any to watch out for.
Thanks everybody for the help in advance.

TC

I think BD-R is the write once media and BD-RE is the rewritable media. If you're doing backups/archiving, I'd use the write once media. I'm probably a little paranoid about it but in the past, the packet-writing software (on PCs) was so flaky I avoided using the RW (rewritable) media. I have used DVD-RWs in the last couple of years with a standalone VCR/DVD burner combo device for recording shows I didn't intend to keep though.

With the high cost of BD media, BD-RE media is probably the better option for short term, incremental backups. For long term, BD-R is the way to go.

I've been pretty happy with the media from Verbatim, TDK, Panasonic and Sony.
