Default PC Playback: What is required?

I would like to upgrade my PC to play Blu-Ray on my HD(1080p) TV. What do I need?

I currently run an AMD 6000+ chip with an nVidea 8800gts (320MB) graphics card under XP and can play DVDs with no problem?

If I buy a Blu-Ray player drive and drop it into the PC will it play?

I remember researching this about a year ago and reading the the graphics card had to included some sort of DRM firmware before it would allow playback.

Also is Linux a viable OS to use for Blu-Ray? I currently have a Linux PVR with MythTV so this could be an option.

Cheers and TIA - SD

All you need is a blu-ray disc reader and either PowerDVD 8 Ultra, WnDVD 9 Plus or Arcsoft Total Media to play them. Some players perform better than others with different kit

The rest of your kit is fine.

As far as i know Linux doesn't have a blu-ray player BUT you can get them to play with ALOT of messing around.

HTH

P.S.

Welcome!!

Your rig is set with one exception - how much ram do you have and which O/S? Other than that, all you need is a bd drive and one of the Softplayers (I recommend WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray, but PowerDVD 8 Ultra and Total Media Theater 2 work fine also).
