Good Actor vs. Good Acting

Let me explain. When I was watching the Oscars, I saw Daniel Day Lewis accept his for There Will Be Blood. In the movie, he's some sort of nothing like what he is in real life. I mean you saw his demeanor and it's just kind of the demeanor you'd find in a guy with an earing in his ear which he had. Basically, you could tell the character he played was nothing like what he was in real life which to me is all the more impressive. That's good acting. The kind of acting that when watching, you forget you're watching a movie. A good actor on the other hand is like Jack Nicholson in maybe like As Good As It Gets. You could see Jack as that kind of guy in real life. It's not that far off. So who do you consider a good actor and what do you consider good acting?
