I was curious what everyone's opinion is on this subject.
In the category of claymation, which do you prefer regarding animation/models/sets/lighting/special effects/etc., Aardman (Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run), or Tim Burton (The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride). I personally prefer Aardman in their animation quality. The reason for this being that Aardman has amazing sets, and the animators aren't afraid to animate from point A to point D without feeling the need to fill in these motions with more frames. With The Nightmare Before Christmas, the characters move a lot more slowly because they fill in what's between frame A and D. Also, being an artist, I have a problem with Jack Skellington's arm length, as the elbow, when standing normally, is supposed to be below the ribcage with the hand falling below the groin. I know this was Tim Burton's intent, but it just bothers me to look at it from certain angles and poses. I do think he is a very good artist and has some really nice sketches though. I originally saw Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit first, and saw Corpse Bride afterwards. This made me feel that the characters in Corpse Bride were too action figure-esque and stiff compared to the variation of character animation in Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run. I do like The Nightmare Before Christmas a lot, but didn't like Corpse Bride. Also the earliest Wallace & Gromit films had poor animation; just stating that I am not completely favored one over the other. I'm not bringing up Flushed Away because that is an entirely different media; being CG. Although I am specifically asking about production quality, feel free to voice whatever opinion you may have. (If my topic or opinion is not entirely legible it's because I seriously need some sleep.) |
