Default Tim Burton's Dark City

I'm just provoking here I want your take please.

1.
It felt like I was watching Tim Burton's "The Matrix" when I saw Alex Proyas Dark City yesterday. Did anybody here get the same idea?

2.
I wonder if Alex Proyas has commented on the Wachowski Brother's
obvious rip-off:
http://galeon.hispavista.com/cineram...ixdarkcity.htm

Don't get me wrong, I love "The Matrix". Both fantastic movies in their own right (almost in their own right ).
In Dark City, Murdoch wakes up not knowing who he is, talks to Kiefer's character Schreber on the phone saying, he should escape, because "they are coming for him" (not exact quote).
Seconds later THREE "strangers" (agents) arrive from an elevator (also in the matrix) in long leather coats. The "strangers" have "tuning" abilities that can change the enviroment and also probably could stop bullets in mid air.
Later Murdoch (Neo) gets a card from his "wife" with Schrebers phonenumber(follow the white rabbit). I could go on.
There was just too many similarities, what's your thoughts?

According to IMDB trivia paghe Schreber's character is even influenced by The White Rabbit in Alice In Wonderland http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118929/trivia.
And The Wachowski even used some of the same sets from Dark City
Of course everything in IMDB isn't gospel, still...
No comment on Tim Burton?

Funny thing is that most people believe that Dark City ripped off the Matrix.

The Matrix > Dark City.
I meant the style of the movie, there where some Nightmare Before Christmas "feels" and the first Batman.

I love both movies. Dark City more. I never got a Burton vibe from either...not even a little. Burtons sets are quirkier and more fantasy-landish.

IMO

Plus, for me, I saw Dark City first...and Matrix later. When I saw Dark City I had never heard of it...just went to the theater to kill time and stumbled onto it. I literally chose it based on the poster outside the theater.

I fell asleep watching the Matrix the first time I tried watching it. Plus Rufus Sewell is a better actor compared to Keanu

I guess the architecture kinda reminds me of Burton's Gotham City, but the movie as a whole doesn't feel like a Burton Film to me.

Good movie though.

Love the side by side comparisons from that link in the OP. I think you could easily do some of those shots with lots of movies, but still, it made for a good chuckle.

I thought the sets were fantasy landish, like Burton's Gotham, no particular style and the dark and goth feel. And at the beginning william hurt played the harmonica, for some reason I immediately thought Tim Burton.
