Default Companies are shutting the door on Vista

Terrible news for Microsoft.

^^ Nothing good or positive to spin out of this. A bad trend that simply does not bode well for Vista sales and future prospects.

Windows 7 needs to be something completely new from the ground up, namely: Coding. Vista is clearly the next "Windows ME." There really is no clear and compelling reason or sets of reasons to move from XP to Vista unless you absolutely just need to use more than 4 gigs of RAM.

Good, they can throw away the key while they're at it...

Theoretically, 64 bit can allocate up to 2^64, or (16.8 million terabytes).

And I don't think Vista is that bad after SP1. Haven't had any problems since the update.

If it wasn't for DX10 i'd still be running XP, then my Xfi fatatlity would work better.

It's currently banned (i.e. they'll remove your computer from the network if it's detected) at work but once all the "tools" they use are supported, I'd expect Vista to be supported.

I do wish they'd shut the door (completely) on Office 2007 though. I spent a while this afternoon trying to find somewhere that has Office 2003 still in stock but it seems to be getting harder and harder to find.

Anyway, I use Vista on the my secondary computer at home. I bought it for both but went back to XP on my main computer (for now at least).

Vista is definitely not the next ME. That was absolutely horrendous. Vista actually works with only a few apps still out there playing catchup. ME could barely run itself without crashing. Plus selling or shipping (however MS defines it) 140 million copies isn't exactly a failure.

I do welcome Windows 7. Vista just wasn't that big of a jump and didn't seem to put a lot of thought into a few of the changes. I keep a drive with XP on it as well as a seperate drive for Vista so I can just swap em out. I find myself on XP more now mostly because Flash CS3 was being flaky on Vista.

As for offices, there really are not a lot of reasons for Vista right now, much like there wasn't a reason for XP back when NT or Windows 2000 reigned. When something works, you don't replace it. The corporate world will upgrade when their applications require it.

i think its obvious that vista was never meant to replace xp. but microsoft needed *something* in the meantime.

its no ME, but its no xp either

I've yet to use it, haven't seen a compelling argument to get me to upgrade from XP. I'm stable, only have 2 gigs of RAM, don't need fancy Aero graphics, have a working Office. Didn't seem worth the cost of the upgrade for little to no return value.

Vista to me was just too darn aggravating to work with. I installed it on my computer a few months after it launched and a week later I installed XP back on to it. What really annoyed me were the pop ups of

"Are you sure you wanna do this?... NOW are you really really sure you wanna do this?.... Ok I am now doing this. Are you sure you want me to complete doing this???"

I disable them, but they seem to always come back in some other form. Some features of Vista is just Eye Candy anyway.

What MS really needs to do is make a completly differen't Windows from the ground up. They could even call it "Doors" for all I care. Majority of the items of Windows is the same from the 95 version, but just retuned for todays applications. (Ex. Start Button, Task bar, Control Panel, Explorer, My Puter, My Networking)

What does Vista have? The same thing except now you have Gadgets added which already been done by differen't OS's

But I'll give it up to Gates Programmers because its pretty difficult to write an OS to be flexible to work on the majority of the machines out now.

My laptop was apparently Vista "ready", installed it, video card wasn't reconized and no drivers for it and a few other annoying things...

long story short, unistalled and collecting dust now.

Ok, kidding, kidding.

Personally, I like Windows 2000 because it was the perfect balance of speed and power for older, slower computers. XP is "good enough" for now, but nothing like the near rock solid days of DOS. Sure we had viruses, but you typically knew right away. They didn't sit there for weeks and months waiting to zombify your machine. Sigh.

XP on three machines... it just works.
Got this new laptop(yeah I bought another laptop! ), Vista Home Premium on it with SP1 from the factory.

Never dealt with Vista for any real amount of time pre-SP1. No idea how "bad" it was.
*SO FAR*, this isn't that bad - certainly not as bad as ME was.
But, it is no XP either.
I have changed/removed/modified/turned off & enabled a few things to get Vista to an acceptable level.

Before any of you ask, Yes! It also has a BD drive in it.
Gots to haves my Blu, ya know?

Knew it was something crazy.
The Vista 64bit webpage said 128+ for Ultimate, Business, and Enterprise.
